Paints for black housing headlights
I am planning to "blackout" my headlights 2 days later..
so.. just a quicky..
What paint to use for black housing headlights?
I am referring to the DIY guide (clearing headlights) of this site..
Any place around my local (I live in Toronto) which sell this kind of paint? Crappy tire?
.. and for those who did this b4.. how many paint (spray cans?) do i need?
thx bunch!

All I used was high tempature engine paint... I wiped the hole assembly with paint thinner, which etches the surface somewhat and painted it with that paint... I gave it like 2-3 hefty coats..

Just bought some High Temp Glossy Engine Paint. I think it's about 500 degree paint. Didn't prime it or clean it or anything. I figured, since it's gonna be protected by the plastic cover, meh. Just masked off the pieces I didn't want painted, and bought one can. Sprayed multiple coats and then clear coated it.
Thanks for da replies guys~
now i know what materials i need to use~
got another quicky though..
how long did you guys left alone the headlights to dry after sealing them back w/ silicon?
or did you guys even seal them back together b4 putting them back into your car?
Thx again..

Well, usually the clear coat will give it an extra shine or glossy look to it. Plus I used it because I wanted the added protection. Not so much from heat. I think using High Temp heat is just a precautionary measure, because you're really not painting the reflective housing in the main headlight, just the outer face part. As for the clear coat being for extra protection, I used it just incase a bulb exploded or something got in there that could scratch the paint. I noticed it could get scratched easily.

Has anyone NOT used high-temp paint, besides Rider... who hasn't been around in a while? I doubt it can get that hot in there, incandescant lights (turn signal and parking lights) don't usually create excessive heat, so can't see the use of regular car touchup spray to be a problem, but who knows.
when i blacked out my headlights, i just used high temp engine paint....just wiped the surface clean with a rag and sprayed 2-3 coats....no clear coat, no primer, nothing else.....so far, everythings all good
I didn't use a high temp paint on mine... They are still fine. No signs of any problems as a result of using GM Black... I don't remember the exact number, but it was the only black I could find at the time.
