Engine Light is ON - code (41)
Hello,
I have Civic 99 LX in CA.
engine the light is on. I read the code and it's 41
O2 heater problem.
Does it has any emission warranty?
What is the best way to deal with it?
thanks.

I think all you need to do is replace your O2 sensor. Some of the sensors on newer cars need to be heated quickly in order to work properly. On older cars, they would let the car run rich, until the engine (and the sensor) heated up to operating temp. On newer cars, they need to be heated by some sort of coil around the sensor. Before you take it to the 'stealership', find out how much an 02 sensor is for your car. If it's not that bad a price, swap it yourself, reset your ECU (disconnect the battery and discharge the system), then give it a try.
If it saves you some cash, it can't hurt. Good luck.

Thank you for reply.
I checked the warranty book and went to Honda to ask this question too.
in the book O2 sensor covered for Civic HX model :-( - I have LX model.
at Honda service I got the same answer, so service adviser looked at the same book.
I asked how much is replacement and got answer:
1. O2 sensor - $212.
2. all replacement cost - $302.
3. diagnostics - $120.
he advised me - run diagnostics at Honda and then do replacement
so total could be $422. - ouch
as this light is on for one week and then off for another as I hope that this is some electrical contact probl. inside the plug. But I'm not sure about that so far.
I'll try unplug O2 and check for contacts in the plug.
any ideas are very welcome.
thanks.

Ouch.. maybe see if you can buy an aftermarket 02 sensor(like Bosch or Nippendenso) and replace it yourself. Then clear the codes and test it out. Worst case you put the original part back in and take it to the dealer..
I checked at Kragen for O2S - all of them cost above $200. for my Civic.
where some other as low as $20. only - Hmm
I run some tests for my O2S :
checked heater resistance - ~30 Om (looks normal)
checked voltage on heater element - ~12.4 V (looks normal)
checked voltage on / from O2S when eng.light is on - above 1 V - too much
checked voltage on / from O2S when eng.light is off (after reset) - 0.3 - 0.87 V - what is normal too
but after two days the eng. light is ON again :-[
very strange
just don't want pay $200. for new one unless be sure 110% my O2S is dead
any ideas?
tnx
