just bought a 01 EX coupe only had for about 2weeks...anyways i just noticed today a rattling sound inside the passenger door(pretty sure it just started today aswell)...window still works fine, almost a springy type of sound, hear it on tight left turns and when opening and closeing the door, like i said its a springy type of sound and its kinda delayed...any guess as to what it could be??...is the door panel something thats kinda easy to take off and check out whats going on or am i going to have to take it in? thanks for any help
i have had my '02 ex coupe for almost 1 year, and let me tell ya, the car is plauged with rattles and squeaks. for example, whenever the sunroof is either open or tilted, the roof squeaks and rattles like crazy. over bumps, it sounds like i have a jar of loose change in the trunk. i have searched for the problem but can't seem to find anything. maybe i'll just have my girlfriend ride around in the trunk to see what's up. but seriously, i have basically come to terms with the fact that this is the bottom of the line honda model, and these kinds of minor flaws just come with the territory. i am also not too concerned because i plan on keeping the ex only temporarily (it's a cheap car to own and operate). just turn the stereo up really loud and watch all those problems just fade away........

No problems with my sunroof, but my front passenger door also. I believe it was because my window was broken into and I had to replace it. I hear a bunch of squeeks and rattles b/c my car is lowered and on stock struts still too. And I have 205/40 tires, so yeah, not the most comfortable ride.
Since your car is only 2 weeks old, take advantage and bring it back in to the dealer and say "hey punks, fix my door!" Its still under warranty, so bring it in.

You'll find that there are all kinds of little rattles and squeks. My passenger door has a rattle, the rear deck rattles, when i'm going down the interstate I can hear the kit rattling a bit against the car. You get used to it after a while. The rear deck is gonna rattle regardless, but to cure the rattle from your stereo when its cranked, just stick an old sock or rag in where the 3rd brake light is.

FWIW, ALL cars rattle. Its just some more than others. Here in Oregon, the roads are pretty crappy and even nice solid cars like a BMW 3 series or Acura CL have a couple of rattles. Lower end cars rattle more so. I imagine that my Civic would be near silent on the roads that I grew up driving on (in Austin TX).
Anyhow, I have a rattle in both doors, but its only on the shitty roads. A few of the roads here have been resurfaced and my car is near silent on those.
The worst noise is tire noise... I know the Stones aren't the quietest tires around, nor is the Civic the quietest car around. Seems that the tires and car are just that much worse on bad roads. Heck, on most of the roads my car is louder inside than our Mustang GT ragtop with the top up -- it has 2 chamber flowmasters so its not exactly quiet).
Anyhow, my 2 cents -- the Civic isn't my dream car, its just transportation and I'll live with the rattles.

Mine passenger side door also rattles. Its the damn lock. Gotta fix it. But I test drove a new Accord yesterday. That thing also had rattles, and it only had 275 miles. One annoying one right about the A Pillar, right by my ear.
I bought a 2001 civic EX cp when they first came out... had a terrible rattle in BOTH doors. Took it back to the dealer, they told me it was a design flaw in the door-jam - or something like that. Basically, it was loose metal on metal parts causing the noise. They grease packed the areas to fix it - I would have done something a little more permanent and a lot less messy, but it seemed to have worked.
thank you for this topic... i've been wanting to mention this too.
I have 2k1 civic sedan.. the front passenger seat makes a rattling noise when no one is seated on it.
Fix: take another passenger if you are driving the car so that the weight of the passenger absorbs the rattle OR have ur musik loud enough so the rattle doesnt bother you.

Yeah my 02 EX rattles like crazy... I had an issue with the passenger side door (coupe); something inside the door was loose, cuz when you shook it, or closed it, you could hear a little squeaking. Brought it to the dealer, and they fixed it, but not before telling me that it looks like the previous owner had played with the door panels and that they normally wouldn't cover it under warranty.
Now i've got squeaks that I gather come from my seat that is loose and there is a constant low sounding high pitched rattle coming from behind my stock radio when I hit 5th gear at around 3-4k RPMs... I've pretty much cometo the same conclusion as everyone else... Our car rattles like hell. I'm guessing it's due to the poor center of gravity (things are always shifting) and cheap plastic interior.

Whew! I am blessed! My 02 EX does not rattle. It did, a little. The rear deck rattles right in the very back where a clip, (not the white plastic ones) hits against the metal. It was lined with felt, but still rattled. Fix: a small piece of foam.
Second rattle: sounded like the right door, but turned out to be the latch for the glove box. 2 turns of vinyl tape fixed that.
Third squeak: Sunroof. Cleaning the edge of both the roof and the rubber gasket and then putting a film of silicone grease on it took care of it. On the plus side, it lubricates the rubber, makes it last longer, and improves the water seal.
Amazingly, that's it! I drive over bumps and potholes almost every day, and so far the car is actually pretty quiet. It CAN be done!
On a side note, when replacing my speakers, I did notice that my car already had quite a lot of foam everywhere. I was actually surprised by this after reading all the "rattle" threads.

Preliasco -
I had (I think) the same rattle you have - when you open and close the door, there's a slightly delayed "squeak" (best way to describe it, sounds like something is loose). I swear it was in mine when I bought it last summer. I had the door panel off shortly after installing Boston comps, and it sounded like it was coming from somewhere near the door handle.
I finally took it in to the dealer in White Plains in February, after 6 days they came back saying that the rattle was caused by the speaker or component crossover rubbing against the door, and that he installed a spacer to get rid of it.
I haven't yanked the panel off to see exactly what he did - If you take it in, let us know what they tell you...I don't think my noise had ANYTHING to do with my modifications.
