Spring Length - B&G vs. Tein
I dont even know if this is a good comparison or not...but here it goes....
As many of you know, many people with Tein's have some pretty bad rear sqeeking in their rears. Solutions have been mixed...and it basically comes down to firming up your back end in a variety of ways...
Right now, my passenger side rear always sqeeks badly. This is because of the gas tank being on the drivers side. The only time I never experience sqeeking is when its not warm out...So I got to thinking that maybe the problem with the Tein SS is the length of the spring. When its cool out (or the car just started up), the spring is going to be naturally smaller as the metal hasn't expanded a little. When the gas tank is full, the spring is compressed more....this is why the drivers side only sqeeks when the gas tank gets to around 1/2 a tank...
Im thinking the spring is just a LITTLE too big...and thats all it can take...
I remember a comment on the B&Gs (which dont sqeek) on this forum that said "wow those springs are smaller than I thought they would be".
If you have uninstalled Tein's or B&Gs, can you measure the lengths of the springs? I just want to see how much of a difference there is.
By no ways am I an expert at cars. I do all my own work but its mostly following DIYs and such. So if I'm making an illogical comparison please feel free to hate on me
. If this is legitamate, I am going to contact Tein and talk to them about it. I've already left them a voicemail and an email regarding the sqeeking issue. Right now, its so bad in my car that I dont even want to drive my car (plus it needs body work done on it anyways due to a Dunkin Donuts cart falling onto it....doh!)....
LMK,
Matt
Note: I know some people on this site have fixed the sqeeking problem by investing $300-$500 in sway bars, monkey bars, etc...but Tein manufactures say you do not NEED these for performance reasons due the design of their coilovers...I dont want to spend this money if I dont have to to fix a sqeeking problem when I feel it really is a design flaw somewhere along the line.

All of the above lol. It doesn't stop unless its cold out. You sit in the car, it sqeeeks. You drive down a paved road, it sqeeeks. Even on the highway, it sqeeks when the body moves at all...the car has to be pretty much stopped without any movement for it to not sqeek.

sounds like it could be some kind of bushing issue.. maybe the one that's around the bottom eyelet of your rear strut? I just picked up that same kind of problem with my B+Gs, and sure enough the bushing is tearing because i didn't drop the car entirely before tightening the bolt. if that's not the issue, something must not have been installed right. hm, wish i could take a look at them. best way to determine where a squeak is coming from is to jack up the car, remove the tire, place a cinderblock under the rotor (or something similar), drop the car, and have someone compress the strut (push on the rear of the car). then you listen and determine what's causing it.

Well the car was still jacked up when I tightened everything....then I tightened the bolts again on the inside...I will take a look this weekend.
Matt
Oh and it didn't start right away....maybe like 1 week after install.
