RPM Noise Through speakers!!!
Hey all,
I have tried everything to get rid of this noise. I wired the entire system myself so I know I ran the wires right. The power wires are run on opposite ends of the car then the RCA's. The ground is right to the trunk floor and it is sanded down to raw metal. I don't know what elce to do. The noise is a high pitch squeeling noise that goes up and down with my engine rpm. Any suggestions? Please Help!!!
Thanks!

The alternator whine (the noise you hear with the RPMs) is typically caused by what you've already checked, the ground or interference with RCAs. Sometimes the quality of RCAs makes a difference, better RCAs will have better shielding and block out more noise. Make sure your RCAs don't get anywhere near the power wires in the trunk. Other things though can cause noise, the ground on the Headunit for one. I also found out last weekend that sometimes a crossover too close to a power wire might cause some noise (if you have component speakers). Is the sound coming out of all speakers or a specific one? Make sure the ground is sanded good and secured good to the chasis. There might be something here that could help: http://www.crutchfield.com/S-E1OqUBk...ech/kb348.html It helped me when I first installed my amp. Thats all I got, Anybody else have any suggestions?
Just out of curiousity, how did you fix it? To fix mine, I went to radio shack and they gave me a little transistor thing that connects between my RCAs and my amplifier. Fixed my whine right up.

The way I fixed it was to re-run the rca wires a different way. I had them run through my center console where my shifter and e-brake are. I took the rca's out and ran them down the side of the center console and under the drivers side carpet, under the drivers seat and then under the back seats. I still hear a realy small wine when no music is on and I am realy listning but it is alot better then it was.

BTW, it also helps to add a 2nd ground to your battery negative somewhere in the engine compartment. I also found that changing the wire to something thicker helped (went from 14 to 10 guage) for me.

Adding a second ground wont do anything, just upgrade to larger grounding wires. And your OEM grounds and power wires are 8 guage, not 14. Upgrade to 4 or 0.

It's not the RCA cables, they are Monster Cable. I don't think they have loosened up either. I think it was always there, I just always kept the music up loud and I didn't hear it. I just have to try to re-locate the rca's again.
Any other suggestions would be great!
Thanks all!

For me personally in past experiences, the location of the ground has made the most difference, try a different ground a few feet away from where your ground is currently, hopefully that will help solve your problem....good luck

Rabbit, my problem still persists. Absolutely every aspect of the installation of my MTX 6304 is perfect (groundings tight, shaved etc) So I guess im gonna relocate to the trunk. Just to let you guys know, a amp cannot be successfully installed under the seat of a 7thgen, dont even try it. (and yes my HU is grounded to the chassis)

MangoEX,
You said you are re-locating your ground to the trunk right. Where did you have it before? I have my ground right to the chassis of the trunk. I'm not realy sure where elce to put it since my amps are in the trunk.

I have the same problem. I happen to work at PolkAudio and the install guys told me that the antenna ground in Honda's is sometimes bad. It happens a great deal in our cars from what he said. I still haven't had time to try to fix my problem but my whine comes and goes as it pleases. Hopefully it will just go on a long sabatical.
Ill tell you exactly how to fix that. I had that same problem with my JL XR tweeters making this high pitch noise, and basically it is coming from the RCAs. I went to radio shack and they gave me a small cylinder thingy that connects between the amplifier and the end of the RCA cable. It filters 95% of the alternator whine. There is a very faint whine that still occurs through my tweeters when my system is off, but when it is on, you can't even hear it when the music is low. I don't know the exact name, but I promise you if you get this thing from radio shack, it will work. Just tell the radio shack people the problem and describe what I told you, small cylinder shaped mechanism that filters ambient sounds and connects between the amplifier and RCAs and they should know what your talking about. PM me if you need the exact name and maybe ill check to see what it is called.

The Product to look for is made by Radio Shack. It is a Ground Loop Isolator. Just ask anyone who works at a Radio Shack for this and they will know what you are talking about. It is meant to be hooked up between the RCA's from the Head Unit and the Amp. Cost is about $15.00 per unit. I had to use 2 because I had RCA's for both front and rear speakers. Works Great Though!!!
Good Luck!
