HELP! Broken Piece Lugnut Screws On To!

Okay, here's what happened. I was driving somewhere and the steering wheel started shaking and making a loud noise. So I stop somewhere and see the I have lost 3 out of the 4 lugnuts on the wheel. Thank god I stopped in time. Now theres an advanced auto parts store right near by luckily. I buy 4 new lugs and come back to find that they don't fit my rim. So I use the spare tire instead. The OEM wrench doesn't work, so I have to go back and buy another one. I come home, and try to replace the wheel with the OEM wheel. As I'm taking the lugnuts off, one of them is stuck. I think that I tightened one of them incorrectly. As I tried to get it off, the thing broke! I assume this is not safe to drive on is it? What am I looking at replacing and how much will it be? Is this a definite mechanic job?

wait, so the lugnut broke? why dont you just buy another one? try contacting the company that makes your rims. in the mean time, just put the stock wheels back on. sorry to hear you having these problems. hope you get them solved

I'm assuming you mean the front since it started shaking real bad? Anyway, if you broke off a stud you can sometimes just get that replaced by removing the brake rotor and hammering out the broke one. Then buy a new stud and hammer it back in. If it cant be hammered in, then it may have to be brought to a shop and pressed in. Also, I think you can just buy a new rotor instead which will have all the studs already installed. Not sure, I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

Studs sell for around $8-$20, way cheaper than a rotor.
NTB charged me $40.00 to replace a broken one in my Minivan, I watched them and it was stupid simple, He took off the tire, placed a metal pointy thing on the broken stud, whacked it 3-4 times with a rubber mallet and the stud fell to the ground. He placed the new stud in the hole, put the nut on, tightened it some, took nut off put the wheel on and tightened it fully. No idea if this applies to Hondas as well, but it prolly does.

I broke one in my old Sentra SE-R once. You basically remove the wheel, pound out the old stud, put the new one in, and a neat trick -- use the lugnut and tighten it to pull the stud into place tight. Of course this was done with an impact, but sure easier than having to pound it into place from the back side.

well, i think he cross threaded the one lug when the other 3 fell off and it put extreme pressure on the remaining stud which cause it to crokk thread ands broke when it came off. Very simple to fix.

yeah, if you torque your tires down to much you will break them. i always redo mine when i get home from a shop. and use a torque wrench people.

Yeah, once those morons tightened the nuts so tight, I was standing on a cheater bar (yes, Standing!) and it wouldn't budge. The cheater bar was over a foot long, slipped over a 1/2in drive ratchet. And I'm not exactly a lightweight
