UPDATE!!!meeting with Honda about stock tires

Well, as I've mentioned before, my stock firestone tires are basically bald. I have 8,300 miles on the car now, and I noticed the tires going bald around 5,000. I had them rotated at about 7200 miles. Well, the tires, now on the back, are BALD. Its an even wear, so I know its not from hard-cornering or underinflation or anything. Well theres the background. information.

I called Honda yesterday and talked to my tech-advisor guy and he agrees there is a problem and wants me to come in and have some other guy look at the tires. If they agree there is a problem, they are going to reimburse me for new tires. Which is awesome cause then I will put the money towards 17's that I am buying next week.

Ill keep your posted on what happens caus I know Im not the only one whose tires have gone bald WAY to quick. My appoitment is Saturday so I will know then.

ELi

Good luck man - I think they'll give you the $$. The stock Firestones haven't really lived beyond 45,000kms up here in Canada for most people, and once you put your own rubber on I think you'll be surprised how load and crappy the FR690s were. I squeezed 50,000kms out of mine, even wear all around, and put on Potenza RE930s. Firestone states a lifespan of 70,000kms I think.... which must include a few months a year being hauled around on a flatbed truck.

Don't forget to do some research yourself on the longevity of the tires and some specs off the Firestone site yourself, and have the information handy in case they decide to try to slip one by on you. Sounds like you've got a good dealership - but it never hurts to be prepared.

I've never heard of the FR690s burning out so fast - you carry lots of crap from Home Depot in yer car daily or something? You do know of course you'r enot supposed to strap 2x4s and plywood to the roof.... and put all the cement bags in the trunk and the backseat... keep all those 100s of pounds distributed equally on the rear axel.

/end sarcasm

Keep us in the loop as to their findings.

Are you sure they just wont give you another set of tires? I really dont see them giving you cash to replace the tires...when instead they can just slap another set of tires on the car...It will be alot cheaper for them in the long run...and thats all they really care about anyway.

Should be going to Honda to see the tech in the next couple of days...I actually dont think they will slap different tires on because when we talked to my "service advisor" we mentioned putting our own, new tires on and just being reimbursed for what new 15's would cost. He knows we dont want the firestones...

No, i actually have a perfect alignment and i'm very perticular about keeping the right inflation in my tires. I take incredibly good care of my car, better than anyone i know. I've averaged around 28 mpg the last couple tanks. The tires just plain f-- suck.

UPDATE::
Just got home from getting it fixed. Talked to the Honda tech and he basically said "Yeah, their bald" and sent me to Firestone up the street. Went into Firestone and told guy the story, and he offered me 4 Brand New Bridgestone Potenza's RE910's for free. I went ahead and got them, no 17's yet but I will buy them when I get home from Spring Break in a few weeks hopefully. The bill, which was compted, came to $405. The tires were $85.99 a piece. That price is totally off from what they should be but since I wasn't paying I dont care. Though I didnt get the 17's, Im pretty happy with what happened.

If your dealership is nice they may just give you the money for them, otherwise they will just give you the tires for free. Mine have about 60% left on them and I have about 70,000km on them. I think I'll be needing new one's next season. Can you say rimsssssssssss.

Hey 2K2EXCOUPE Let us know how it turns out...I admittedly drive my car a little hard but my civic only has like 6000 miles on it and the tires are pretty much gone. Add to that 3000 miles of that was in the snow where its pretty hard to wear your tires...I would like to see some warranty for these crappy tires-They are horrible in snow and rain for traction- I would like to see about getting some replacement value from honda for mine as well.

Yeah the stock tires suck! I had some pissed off drunk guys try to run me off the road by swerving at me. I swerved away and then back when i noticed another car in the lane next to me, When i swerved back the rear end slipped and off the road i went into a street sign and into a fence. They drove off of course. This was in dry weather, they had no traction, they suck!
