For those that mounted spare tire under car

I was just wondering, for those that have mounted their spare tire under their cars.....how much space under the car is there? Like when you go over speed bumps does it ever have a chance of making your car bottom out on it? I'm thinking it can't be much worse than lowering your car with different springs and such.....i like the idea of not having a spare in the trunk so that i can have much more space, i just don't want it to be a pain in the **** when it comes to having to be careful where i drive it.

it might not be a pain when you are driving, but it makes for getting your spare out if you need it interesting. i actually used an old assembly from a pick-up that had the wire and a crank to make this easier on me. it requires a little more work, but it is worth it, IMO, in the long run, mainly cause i don't have to crawl under my car if i need my spare, i put the rod in there, and crank it down and remove the spare.

i dunno about a kit, but my car was (is) lowered, i had no *real* problems, after i too realized that getting the tire out would be a pain, i pulled it off, i want to set mine on the side like 2k1civic.com's civic, but ive been pretty lazy and havent gotten around to it yet. would fix everything tho.

makes more sense to pull it to teh side, other than the fact that its alot more work......

no, unfortunately, i do not, i don't have a digi cam, and no one else i know does... but it's pretty easy to do, just take a look under a pickup, and look how it's assembled, then go to a junk yard and find a working assembly, and buy it i got mine for about 10 bucks i think it was. then, you just bolt it up and make sure everything still works, and there you have it. also, i didn't drill a hole in my bumper like most trucks, i simply mounted it behind the bumper. yeah, you have to bend down to do it, but at least you don't have to crawl under the car...
