all plexi? or with a window? if you are going with a window, you have a lot of options.... i would suggest 3/4" to 1" mdf, cheaper than most materials, and also a good material..... at least 1/4" plexi.... size determined by window size... i am still working on mine as of now, haven't gotten to work on it since last saturday cause of work, and rain..... you'll also need something to cut it with, i used a rotozip, worked great.... and some wood glue and something to seal the cracks with (caulk, silicone, etc...) you can use your carpet as your pattern, don't use the piece of mdf under carpet, you'll know why once you see it.... screws, and such for attaching the pieces.... i believe that white rabbit has posted a DIY for this recently....i may be wrong, but there's a general idea of the stuff you'll need... i can't really think great right now, cause of a slight inebriation..... but that's a general idea, you could browse member's rides and find some pics for general ideas..... i will post some pics once mine is done, and i locate a digicam of course.... it's an interesting task to undertake, but well worth it in the long run, you may hate doing some of the stuff, but as long as you are half-way decent with woodwork, etc... theres nothing like a job you do yourself to satisfy your ICE needs/wants..... note to self... finish trunk....

you only need 3/4' + if your building a box

for a window 1/4 - 1/2 is plentyeven 1/8 could work

I have a question about plexi glass, like where do you buy it from....and how much does it cost?? And also, i'm assuming that the stuff scratches very easily, that's probably why you see a lot of professional installs that have a easily removeable carpet piece that can cover the plexi.

you can get it at lowes, home depot, glass shops, etc..... kinda expensive if you buy full pieces though... as far as scratching, it will scratch, if you neglect to remember its in there.... i've never had a problem with it, but some have.... as for the carpet piece you are describing, if you use the stock carpet (glueing it to mdf) and you cut out for the window... there's your easily removable piece you described, as long as you don't eff it up cutting it....
