The MAF is that thing that plugs into your intake. I think all cars have them.

Ever seen these ebay sellings? All it does it put a resistor on your MAF and this causes the suppposed increase performance.

The mass airflow sensor (MAF) senses the amount of air going into the engine so air/fuel ratio can be managed. Sometimes a temperature sensor is also placed on the intake farther away from the throttle body where there is less heat so the engine thinks the air is cooler and the ecu changes the timing to take advantage of the colder air. Hope this helps.

That's not the MAF sensor, that's the IAT sensor (Intake Air Temperature).

I don't think our cars even have a MAF sensor, but I'm not completely sure. I believe our ECU estimates the amount of oxygen entering the intake by the temperature read from the IAT and the position of the TPS (Throttle Position Sensor).

As for cars with a MAF, cleaning a dirty one will certainly improve how the car runs. A big problem with people with K&N filters is that the oil tends to fly off and stick to the MAF's wires causing the ECU to think the car is running lean.
