Best tweeter install location?
Best tweeter install location?
I have a Pioneer system thus far: a 6400 HU and 1667 speakers in the front doors (I have not gotten around to the rears yet); I am pretty happy with the 1667's - they have really warmed up in the last few months. After driving a rental Camry this week, I have gotten used to its component setup, and I was thinking of adding some tweeters to get that extra crispness. I will likely not get Pioneer tweeters, as they do not handle enough power - I am considering some Polks I saw at Circuit City.
My question is this: what might be the best placement, on the sail panel angled in towards the listeners or on the dash facing straight up towards the windshield? I have seen the latter setup in both the Camry and my buddy's Accord, and they both sound pretty sweet.

Dont install tweeters on-top of your coaxials. If you want components, get components. Try ebay, infinitis are nice, bostons are good too, JLs rock my socks. Between selling your coaxials and getting components, you wont lose too much.

Expirement by temporarily mounting the speakers in different spots amd see what you like best. It really depends on the characteristics (sp) of the tweeter and personal preference. Also, for the price that you will buy a good set of tweeters from Circuit City you could prolly find a good component set online...which in the end will prolly sound better because both speakers will be matched and optimized with a passive crossover that comes with a set.

Actually tweeters can help raise your sound stage in the front, so the music won't sound like it is coming from the side of your feet...and two way or mid bass is all you really need in the back...or just leave the 6 by 9 that is stock back there anyway.
