Maint. req. light flashing on new EX
Maint. req. light flashing on new EX
This evening when I went to start my car I noticed that the maintenance required light continued flashing after the other gauge lights went off (oil, seatbelt, battery). It flashed 10 times and then stopped. I know this isn't normal because it caught my attention with it being the only light in the instrument cluster flashing.
My car is an '02 EX and it has 8,000 miles. I already had an oil change done at 6800 miles and it runs great (aside from the damn rattling noise it makes when I accelerate). I drove the car after the maint. req. light stopped flashing and it ran fine. I then turned the engine off and restarted it after about 10min. and the light flashed again about 10 times. I just don't understand why it would flash a little longer than normal and then stop. If something did need to be checked in the engine wouldn't the light flash the whole time while I was driving? I really don't want to deal with the dealer again. This will be my fourth visit to have my car inspected for maintenance concerns/problems. If the light continues to flash 10 times and then shuts off, when I drive it the rest of this week, should I take it in and have the engine looked at? I really want to avoid having to go to the dealer and I want to trust that my new Civic isn't going to let me down if I don't take it in.

Read Your Owners Manual (RYOM) Its tells you everything you need to know about the maintanace light and how to reset it. Many problems can be corrected by just reading the manual cover to cover.

Yeah I know that manual can be intimidating but here are some simplel tips to efficiently use your "owners manual"
1. go to index
2. look up term and page number
3. read solution and fix problem
Try it a couple of time and each time you'll find it easier and easier to do the next time
