camshaft lift/duration shenanigans

the itr is getting skunk2 stage II cams and my friend gave me a link showing comparison between all available camshafts for the itr and here are the stats for these camshafts:

Skunk2 Stage 2
Intake Lift 12.3mm
Intake Duration 266@ 1mm
Exhaust Lift 11.8mm
Exhaust Duration 262@ 1mm

is the lift just the distance from the valve seat to the bottom of the valve when it's completely open in the intake stroke? (if this isn't right, plz give the correct definition)

and as far as duration goes, my friend told me the 266 and 262 are the degrees at 1mm, but what exactly does that mean?

Okay for lift your correct..

For duration..it's how many degrees of rotation the valve stays open. 262 at 1mm means the valse is open at least 1mm after 262 degrees of rotation just before it closes.

SMX is on a distinguished road
I'm so used to seeing cam specs in degrees at 0.05" that I can't think in mm terms. Presuming a linear relationship between lift and duration, that makes the 260 degree cam about 205 or so at 0.05" (1.27 mm). I'm hoping that my assumption is wrong. If it's not, that's a pretty short duration cam.

Linky

this was the link i am talking about, comparing all b series aftermarket camshafts.

compared to THOSE cams, the skunk2 stage 2 have a long *** duration, especially compared to stock itr cams

More aggressive cams with longer durations genrally require dyno-tuning and fuel management otherwise they can bog your engine out or cause problems

agreed

that's why we got the AEM EMS (been installed), 270cc RC engineering injectors, and 2 excellent dyno's at our disposal. it's all good just the wait that's unbearable
