Quick swap question (sorry)

If you swap an engine from a car with (just making up #s here) an 11xxxrpm redline into a car with an 8xxxrpm redline, do you need to switch the guages? Or just know that when you hit redline on your guages, you're still okay?

That's a personal preference. You could order guages that raise your "redline" to 11k or you could keep the stock guages that have a redline of say 8k and just rev to 11k. This will not hurt anything, but it's nice to have your guage redline where your motor redlines. In a race it's just easier to shift when you see the needle hitting the red than worrying about hitting the rev limiter, lets you keep your eyes on the road a little more. But again with anything you will get acustom to it.
Good luck.

Take our cars for example. Swap in a K series Type R and the tach will still be allright to use since the rev limiter is at 8,400rpm.

just get a tach with a light and set it to the rmp's you read line at then the light will hit you in the eyes and you will know to shift.
when using a tach i usally set it 500 rmp's before red line incase you miss shift or something else goes wrong.
