SMELL after RUNNING CAR HARD

I've been getting a smell from my engins after running my car hard (not even at high speeds, just hard acceleration under 40 mph). It smells almost like burning rubber and I only get it from running the car a little harder than normal. Also, since I have an automatic, I'm obviously not holding it to the redline at all. I've checked my belts for wear, no visible problems. My car has 20,500 mi on it and I last changed the oil at about 17,500 mi and regularly change it every 4,000 mi. The only performance mods I have on my car are AEM SRI which I've had on since November and a Mozart rear section which I've had on for almost a month. I've run out of ideas of what it could be. I'd appreciate any serious advice anybody is willing to give. Thanks so much.

is ur muffler touching ur rear bumper at all? cuz if it is, that would contribute to the smell

If I downshift from third from fifth and rev hard to pass someone I usually get a burning smell through the vents. The shop I work for has attributed this to something with the valves. Isn't a reason for major concern though.

You say smell something like burning rubber?
Check you tire pressure just in case.
I think someone here had burning smells and discovered his tires weren't inflated correctly.

After I first got my exhaust welded on, it smelled pretty bad the first couple days.... but it went away fairly quickly, so i doubt your exhaust is causing that.

since you only have 20,000 miles on it, take it to the dealer and let them look at it. if you have a warranty of 30,000 miles or more, your exhaust or sri shouldnt void the warranty at all. They might tell you to switch the sri to a INJEN CAI Race Division but thats about it lol

Has anyone considered attributing the smell to the new supposedly "cleaner" fuels that gas stations are now selling? The exhaust of my Z smells like rotten eggs every once in a while when i drive it hard and run near redline a few times in one run. Some people i have talked to have also said they get that smell and they dont drive their cars hard whatsoever. I dunno about the burning plastic smell, but my car also did that for the first few weeks while the plastics and stuff under the hood wore in from the engine heat.

I've smelled that in a lot of Honda's when they run hard, even for a bit (that's how I can always tell when my friend is punching it when I follow him in my car.) Me and him have just branded it the "Honda Smell", and left it at that. I don't think it's a serious problem, but it doesn't hurt to get it checked out .

a lot of things contribute to car smells. when you run a car hard, expecially when its new or has few miles, its working harder than it usually does. the friction with the moving parts and the lubricants and the belts begin to let off heat, when you start to cook the things around your engine, they let off a smell. i get it when i clean my engine too, the residue of engine cleaner doesnt like heat very much and it produces a rubbery smell.

The only time my car smells is when I fart. These cars are too small to be farting much in them.

So true, so true.

It could be your muffler or your clutch?

My friend has a 6th gen civic and his always has a burning smell after a hard run. Mine had some even with a clean engine bay and low miles. I only run it past 4000rpms a few times a week and it still smells. Maybe it's the heat melting parts away.

hey salokod, the reason your getting that smell is because ur car is new. Its just breakin in your engine and etc. Dont worry happened to me also. But it went away after a while.
