Need Help: Question about ports w/o subsonic filter
I am thinking about going with a single sub setup in a ported enclosure. However, my amp does not have a subsonic filter. I know if the music frequency drops below the port frequency, the sub is going to sound like a$$. I listen to a lot of hip hop and r&b, so this is a very real possibility. Aside from using a sealed box, what are my options to prevent this from happening? Are there any separate subsonic filters I could buy to suplement my amp? Also, are there any head units that have subsonic filters built in (I know Alpines have a lot of equalizing features but am not sure what). Thanks for your input.
or you can keep yoru gains low.
try partsexpress
as to sounding crappy, i used to run a single tempest in 4.5 ported to 23 Hz off a jbl 1200.1, and sounded absolutely beautiful up to the moment the voice coil came off the former.
and even then it wasnt audible at high volumes (minus the massive drop in spl)

I looked at partsexpress, but the filters they have only take 250Wrms. I'd be running the sub setup with a 2ohm load and my amp would be putting out 400Wrms. I didnt see any filters that took higher power on that site. Is there anywhere else I should look?
WhiteRabbit, I take it that your ported setup did not use a subsonic filter? I didnt know you could tune ports that low.
If I were to get a set up with a port tuned to 20hz, would I still get tight/punchy bass, or would it get boomy? Thanks.

The FMod is a line level crossover. you were looking at one of the other in-line crossovers. the wattage doesn't matter.

example: go take a HIGH powered sub amp and run a single component set to it, youll see what i mean... the crossovers would prolly melt if the speaker didnt blow
