Santa is bringing a remote start / keyless entry.

Hello there, this is my first post so I'll do a quick intro. My name is Jason... I am 20 years old, I work for Citibank, who pays 80% of my college tuition. My fiancee and I both drove '98 Saturn SC2, hers was Midnight Blue, mine was Bright Red. We both recently traded in our Saturns and got '02 Civic LXs. It kinda sucked downgrading to no sun-roof and no keyless entry, but we made the decision based on current low interest rates, severe depreciation of our Saturns after 9/11/02, and reliability. Our 2-door LX's are exactly the same exact mine is Titanium and hers is Silver.

Well, my brother just informed me that he bought my fiancee and I keyless entry / remote starts for our Civics. He works at Best Buy and got a nice discount on them. The brand is Avital and I was just wondering if you all have any tips?

I worked in the Circuit City install bay for about 4 months before Citibank but I never did a remote start / keyless entry on my own, I just did sound installation. I saw in the DIY section the wire diagram, which helps greatly. Do you all have any tips before the install?

And yes, my brother is a bastard for telling me what I got for Christmas 3 days before Christmas.

Welcome to the site. I just purchased the same remote starter for my father's 2002 GMC Yukon Denali. Before I bought it I heard from a friend that a remote starter "screws up the electrical system." I talked to the owner of the shop I bought it at and he assured me it wont harm anything.... anybody have any comments on this?

Avital is manufactured by a reputable company called DEI. they manufacture about 80 percent of all the alarms sold in stores and dealerships. ie Viper, CLifford, SIdewinder, Python, Avital, and many more. The other 2 reputable brands are Ungo, made by CLarion and Alpine.

I have the Viper ESP 550 in my 98 Es300. It works great. It has all the basics plus Remote Start and Proxemity sensor. I havent had any problems with that alarm for about 4 years now. I also have the Automate Alarm which i bought from the dealer with the car, and i do not have any problems whatsoever with them. goodluck on your install. Oh yeah, if you are not familiar with honda, you can run the Constant (+) and the Ignition (+) from your fuse panel. There is no need to run wires to your battery. Keep it clean, use the dealer outputs.

I bought my girl a starter kit for her car, and I am not the type for DIY, so I am taking her car to Pep Boys. Hopefully they'll do it for cheap. Plus if they mess the car up, they are liable.

ok first off pep boys cant install anythign ... i have been installing for almsot 6 years now , and i have fized most of there installs .. i wouldnt bring it there if they paid me .. honestly bring it to a circuit city or best buy .. i have worked at custom shops and now i am at circuit city i like working for the better .. but thats a different issue .. in terms of remote starts which is all i do or alarms .. they are very easy .. i hav no issues with 90% of the cars that are out there .. it will not mess up a electrical system unless its done by a hack , i have seen some bad isntalls from people, fixed a sheit load from other shops circuit and nont circuit but i would send remote starts and alarms to pros and not DIY .. since you can really messthings up .. we sell these crap remote starts ( by crap there are no options on it) htye are Dei they are killer units for jsut remote starting , but other options they have none .. they come with a DIY tape .. since we got them about a month ago , i have about 50 or 60 tapes .. a cust came in after tryin to do it himself .. he was in a 01 avalance .. nothign hard... i can have it doen in just under a hour .. now they guy needs to buy a new BCM , PCM and he fried out a Injector .. first off the moron used a test light .. wrong !!! second he used t-taps .. im not even goin there ( or wire nuts or crip caps they are for hacks) ... radios and stereos with smart harness's and they ease of them , monkeys could do my job if that is all it entailed .. but remote starts and alarms are much more difficult , a lot of comapnys that make alarms say go to the battery for 12v constant , WTF is that about .. if you have a alarm and someone tries to jack your car, and the fuse is right there by the battery , pink pulls the fuse alarm dead .... but back on topic ... HAVE A PRO DO IT .. and not pep boys
