tires for 17 inch wheels?

I am thinking about getting 17 inch wheels for my civic and want to know how big a tire I can get. I think that 205's will be too wide and it will rub when I turn. Somebody give me some help please.

215/45/17 Is the largest popular size people have on here... wider might be possible, but the selection may be very small (I never looked). 225/40 is the closest to stock if there are any available tires. 225/45's are available... your speedo will be off by a little over 2%. I would stick to 205 or 215.

I have 215/45/17 I got them since I have an EX model. I have no clue why people go with a 205/40 since it runs up the mileage but who knows? Plus with the potholes around here 205/40 wouldn't protect my rims. But yeah if you have a LX or DX I would say like a 215/40/ or like 205/45

But just to give you some ideas its your ride

If your roads are bad, I'd get a 45 series tire. A lot of people here have 205 but I'd choose 215 as a wider tire improves handling. My bud had a 205/35 tire on his GS-R... the rims didn't last too long on Cali roads.

215/45/17 are great, may have to roll fenders if you are lowered

I have 215/45/17 on my EX also. I dunno about rolling the fenders since my car isnt lowered yet. With all the potholes in NYC...I need the 45 as opposed to the 40.

the best size i feel is 205/45/17. 205/40 is too thin and you'd have to worry about your rims getting damaged. 205/45/17 gives the closest diameter to the original stock diameter, so for speedometer its the best as well. Plus it looks better to have some tire around your rims, not lookin like a rubberband.
