All MA people, Must Read.. aftermarket Exhaust Systems
My Friend, a member on Focaljet.com suggested I post this here to get everyones thoughts & comments, this seems pretty serious.
This is from the website: www.sema.org
URGENT LEGISLATIVE ALERT
Massachusetts Legislation to Ban the Sale/Installation of Aftermarket Exhaust Systems
A bill (H.B. 3593) has been set aside for study that would prohibit the sale or installation of “an exhaust system which has been modified in a manner which will amplify or increase the noise emitted by the exhaust.” We are hopeful that upon further review, the bill will be withdrawn.
We Urge You to Contact Your State Legislators Immediately to Oppose This Bill
H.B. 3593 ignores the fact that aftermarket exhaust systems are designed to make vehicles run more efficiently without increasing emissions.
H.B. 3593 does not supply law enforcement with a clear standard to enforce, allowing them to make subjective judgments on whether or not a modified exhaust system is in violation.
H.B. 3593 fails to recognize that aftermarket exhaust systems offer increased performance, which can make a vehicle safer by improving its ability to merge, pass, travel uphill, etc.
H.B. 3593 would make it difficult for hobbyists to replace factory exhaust systems with more durable and better-looking stainless steel ones.
Contact your state legislators to oppose this legislation. This bill tramples on the rights of vehicle enthusiasts in Massachusetts. If you need assistance in determining who your legislators are, please contact the Massachusetts General Court at 617/722-1276. This information can also be obtained by calling the SEMA Washington, D.C. office at 202/783-6007 or via the Internet at

Please fax us your letters at 783-6024 202 or mail a copy to:
Update... Got a letter from Senator Andrea F. Nuciforo today not good news folks an exerpt from the letter says "The Committee reported this bill favorably and discharged it to the House Committee on Ways and Means for fiscal review." also from this letter " this bill would also prohibit an exaust system that has been modified in a manner which amplifies or increases the noise emitted by the exaust." This bill would also prohibit the sale by any person of a automobile with a modified exaust system, this means anyone with an aftermarket exaust old or new, and no grandfather clause here folks so start digging up new exausts for your cars that have cat back systems, you won't pass inspection with them. Again I urge you guys to write!!!! I only wrote 2 days ago and have already started to get feed back from our "Representitives" thats right "our Representitives" they got voted in let them here your opionions!!!!!!! This is serious
This has been posted on numerous other boards as well over the past year. The Bill was up earlier this year and because of SEMA's efforts, the bill never even came close to passing..... Thank god.....
At least we all have SEMA to help us auto enthusiasts lobby the legislature....
Just wanted to give you an FYI....

whoops.. nevermind your right.. did a little searching and this is what i found
i dunno. to each his own. if it doesnt break any emissions laws, fine. keep your exaust. i understand the performance gains, looks and style. i also would like to say that LOUD PIPES SAVE LIVES! think about it. its kinda corny but may be true. you are heard. that could save the life of a pedestrian. But, people in general are tierd you the average JOE SCHMO driving like a mad man through either a crowded city or quiet town, constantly stomping on the gas for the pleasures of hearing his own car go VRRROOOOM. thats dangerous. it sucks for the people who dont do it, but this is what it has come to. i think a lot of exuasts sound like pure weedwackers, and ignorant people now a days are putting them on to make noise. "sounds fast" you know someone always to find the easy way out. the easy way out it to ban loud pipes. they are relitivley cheap to buy, cheap to install and seen on just about as many cars as you see with rims. these cars are owned normally by kids who have high insurance rates for a reason. maybe they figure if your not reving your car up and making all kinds of ungodly noise you will be less likely to involved in a road race, rage, and or accident. because lets face it, some sound just as bad as NOT having and exaust all together. in CT no exuast is under 14-80(b) and now excessive/noise is under that same state statue. i havent heard of many people getting pulled over beacuse of an exuast. there are hundreds on kids in hartford with shitty cars and shitty pipes. all it seems to do is aid the police in stopping a certain age group for the right to further investigate. just my 2 cents. IMO get the dc sports TCS.

when I get an exhaust for my car I don't want to go to loud,.. I'm going more for the looks & longevity of the stainless steel than the performance.
just my opinion

My $.02:
Those Harley's are under the same laws as crotch rockets that have aftermarket exhausts on them as well. Keep that in mind, you get rid of Harley exhausts, you need to get rid of exhausts for 'Busa's as well.... Also, if you get rid of Harley exhausts, you'll need to ditch all the custom bikes that are out there like the imfamous Jesse James bikes that we all know and love..... Also note that guys with Harley's do get excessive noise tickets, just like we all do (trust me, I've gotten multiple on my Mustang, not sure why though ), just not as often as we do.....
Don't get me wrong, I absolutely HATE it when a Harley goes blasting up my street at 3AM when I need to get up for work the next morning, so I can relate to you on that.... but unfortunately it comes with the territory....
