Kicker 12' L7 Solo Baric and JL audio 500.1 amp

I don't know too much about Watts RMS with amps and sub and I was wondering if some one could clarify something for me. According to the specs on a Kicker 12' L7 it has a Max power 750 W RMS and a max Watt of 1500 W, so if I get a JL audio amp with a 500 W RMS power Max single channel to power one Kicker 12' l7. Will I be getting the maximum performance out of my sub? Or should I get another amp to power my sub. Thx in advance

Theoretically no .... you wouldn't be getting the max out of your sub.

But let me just tell you that would freaking bump all the same. I question if you would even really know the difference if you got a more powerful amp in the end.

250 more watts on that speaker... if you wanna get mathematical, its only 1.5 dB's, which in reality that could be disproven forwards and backwards, its just an approximation... but you wouldn't notice it... plus, JL amps are some of the most solid amps out there...

I don't think that is what he is saying at all. There is a big difference going from 250 to 500 compared to 500 to 750. It follows a curve, not a line.

Think of it as exponential .... the more power you output, the more power it takes to actually tell a difference.

Going from (250 -> 500) vs from (500 -> 750) isn't the same at all.

Will it be better, yes. How much better is very suspect.

It reminds me of when I did a comparison of analog vs digital w/ my cd player for my home system.

In a blind test flipping back and forth I couldn't tell the difference. When I did pick though, 9 out of 10 times I picked the digital. So was digital better, yes. How much ... not enough to say so.

ya thats true cause you think of it as a 50% increase from 250-500 but a 25% increase from 500-750. i used the 250 example cause theres no 750 watt amp from JL. but ya i still think it would be noticeable. i know theres a border line to this but why not just get a comp vr thats 400rms. its what $100 cheaper. yes you wouldnt be using the amp to its full potential but 400 is closer to 500 then 500 is to 750. even % wise. i guess my suggestion is to find a different amp that would make better use of the sub.

thx for all the reponses...I email Kicker support and ask them the exactly same question and this is what they had a say

500 watts will be plenty of power. It will drive the sub very well. There is
only a 1.5 dB increase from 500 watts to 750 watts. This increase is not
audible to most people. 500 watts will be great.
