Enclosure design for 4 10" subs in Civic Sedan

I have been using graph paper to sketch out a sealed sub enclosure that will hold 4 10" subs (e.g. JL Audio's W0 series). I have a 2002 Honda Civic LX Sedan. My best efforts have yielded an enclosure the looks like a W from the top. The biggest problem is fitting the 2 10" subs in the middle of the W. My best estimates have the magnets hitting at the back of the sub even moving the subs to an offset mounting rather than in a straight line. I am still working on my drawings but wanted to survey the board to see if anyone has seen an existing setup on the net for our cars or has any good ideas other than the W shape to hold multiple subs.

why not get into the spare tire area, then make a box that has 2 facing up, and 2 facing towards the trunk lid... or, i dont know if this will cause some sort of cancellation, why not make a square box where all 4 are angled in towards the center of the box, kinda like a bowl type thing... i could come up with a million more... i know someone here had 3 W0's, but i dont know about 4... take some time, youll come up with something... PM me if you wanna hear my stupid suggestions... i could prolly come up with a few...

Thought about a curved structure but I'm trying to keep the design within my means to build it and also minimize the depth of the enclosure.

How about a perfectly square box. Like approximately 16" deep x 38" long x 12" tall or so with like 1.5" feet on the corners. Put all the woofers firing down with 2 slightly staggered and put a plexiglass window on the front and back. Front for when the seats are down, back for when you look through the trunk. Also place the amps on top of it. That would probably look sweet.

Thanks for those links. I had seen an install in a non-Civic that used 4 10" in a similar fashion, but I am looking for something a little more low key.

You don't think thats low-key? Ha Ha

a) Volume req's of the subs u wanna use?

b) Which way will they be facing?

c) Will the seats be left down?

d) Where are the amps going to be going?
(back of box, amp board, side of trunck, under seat, etc ...)

e) Estimate the show off potential 1-10, do you want plexiglass window, etc ...

This can help us get ideas a lot better. I assume you will have someone make you a custom box.

Look at my pics if you wanna see how I did mine with an amp board.

A) Subs only need about .75 cubic feet each so an enclosure with 3 total cubic feet should be fine

B) Subs face the front of the car. Put the rear seats down and you can see the subs

C) The seats will not be left down.

D) Amps and other gear will be mounted on the back of the sub enclosure.

E) No plexi desired. I just want a solid, carpeted enclosure.

I like the way your amps are mounted. I have seen that setup in a couple of the car audio mags, but I think I want the amps visible when you open the trunk.

Yes, the box would be built by someone else but I wanted to flesh out he design myself.

Thats about right I think. It will be tight but should work. Hopefully you can get er into the trunk too. I did the calculations with 3/4" MDF in mind.

Please someone else check the math etc ..... make sure I didn't do anything dumb.

That might work. I could probably decrease the width a bit because the subs only require about 5" of mounting depth. I am trying to keep the box between the wheelwells (36-38").

Thanks for the help.

Actually they are almost 6" deep, but minus the 3/4" for the MDF that they would mount in.

So I don't know if the two forward facing subs would have enough room even. Then do need some clearance for the VC's to vent.

Possibly go to 3, it would make life a lot easier for box building.

Measure in between, I think 40" might go.

We'll split the difference on the mounting depth, it is 5.375 inches for the 10" W0 sub. According to JL Audio's literature, this sub doesn't require any space between the back plate and the enclosure. They only recommend that the back plate not be touching the side of the enclosure.

I think with a couple of slight modifications you design would work. Thanks!
