i was looking at tirerack.com's info pages about installing your wheels and it says you should measure the torque when putting on the lugs, b/c if it's too much or little it can lead to your wheels getting all f***ed up. now, is this really necessary or maybe just a way to get suckers to buy the torque wrenches from their site? i dunno if i wanna shell out $30 if no one does it and haven't had problems b/c of it. thanks in advance (and yes, i searched but found nada).

I use a torque wrench to tighten my lugs. You can pick them up at any place that sells tools. It's a pretty common mechanics tool.

Torque spec is 80 ft-lbs for lug nuts.

and overtightening can lead to problems as well, such as: stretched studs and/or warped rotors

a torque wrench does have a place in a tool box cus many bolts serve specific functions need the correct amount of torque,in this case..the force to secure the wheel to the car, good investment to have one.
