Which springs for 2002 sedan with SI rims?

Hey all,

this is my first post, I found this site a few days ago after I had just bought a 2002 Civic EX sedan. I've tried to search the forums before posting this but no one has really talked about lowering a car with 15 inch rims so I thought I'd shoot this question out to you.

I wanna lower my car and my bro has just given me his SI rims, the problem I'm having now is trying to decide which springs to buy. I've noticed that many sedan owners here either like the Neuspeed sport springs or the Eibach pro-kit and sportlines but, most of the pics are displayed with 17 inch rims. What I want to do is just to eliminate as much wheel gap as I can. Since this is my first new car I definitely don't want to scrape all over the place, i just want a clean look to it.

So, would I be better off getting the 1 inch pro kit drop, or are the 1.75 neuspeeds better?

id go with either the goldline springs or the neuspeed sports..they look tight and there is minimal gap with the goldlines...i have them...but i have 17's..but i think they look tight w/ the si's...just my $.02

As I pondered the same question, I put a ruler to the fender. A 2.125" drop will put the top of the tire just about even with the top of the fender. Judge more or less from there.

VtecPimp218: What do you think about the Eibach Sportsline compared to the neuspeeds? Am I right in thinking that there would be more wheel gap if I put goldlines with 15" rims compared to goldlines with 17" rims?

BoilerMaker1: If I dropped it down to 2.125", would I be susceptible to scraping over bumps?

I have my car lowered about 2.25" with B+G coilovers and I have absolutely no scraping problems. there is one speedbump I know of that seems to be like 3" high, but generally speed bumps are no bigger than 2" off the ground. with my car at it's current height, I have a clearance of just under 2.5" or so. I also have the 15" stock wheels still, if you wanna see what it may looks like, just click the link in my signature below.

oh, and welcome to the site

uh.. people, how many times do i have to say it, dont go only by the size of the rims, go by the size of the tires.. so if i have 10" rims imma have a 1 feet gap compared to 20" rims where i'll have no gap? no, why? because of the tires.. when you get smaller rims you get tires with a bigger sidewall. when you get bigger rims the sidewall should be smaller.. the rim size might change but the overall diameter of the tire should stay in that range...

since you have a sedan i only recommened neuspeed and maybe goldlines. either those or coilovers. reason why is those are the only companies that make specific springs for both coupe and sedan. H&R or eibach doesnt. but ya i would go with neuspeed sports for sedan. depending on the size of the tires, probably 1 1/2 finger gap all around

Thanks for the info guys.

VNlilMAN: I went to two of my local race shops today and both of them have the neuspeeds in stock, problem is, they don't know of any difference between sedans and coupes. The neuspeed box doesn't say anything either, just "Honda Civic 2001-up". What problems would there be if the coupe version was installed?

that is the sedan one... heres what happened, when neuspeed first released their springs they only had one kit for both coupe and sedan. thats what i got on my coupe, but when i installed it i noticed the front had like 1 1/2 finger gap while the rear had 3. i called up neuspeed and found out they recently made the coupe springs(this was back in like may). so the old one is for sedans and the new ones are for coupes.
neuspeed 4 door model number: 55.20.61
2 door: 55.20.62

i have a 01 sedan with goldlines and spc camber kit..i also have 205-45-17's...and i have no gap in the back and a little over a finger in the front..i used to have 40 series tires and the gap is more...so like vnlilman said depends on ur tires..but i do recomend goldlines over eibach..only b/c of the price....i paid 140 shipped from tornactive...but yea id say either get the neuspeed or the goldlines..ur going to pay a pretty penny for the eibach's..its all in the name.....

Thanks for clearing that up VNlilMAN. Another question, do you know if there is a difference between the EX suspension and the others?

see i dont like goldlines for that reason, the backs fender gap is smaller then the fronts.
but i'm not too sure if they have a no sag warranty or not but i do know that they wont sag. i dunno check their website or something, i'm sure if it does sag, they'll replace it tho. their customer service isnt as great as goldlines but it is still very good, they "replaced" my sedan springs for coupe springs.

as for the suspension being different on the EX.. other then the sway bar(i think 01' non-EX models dont have one) the suspension is the same. there is a difference between the 01 and 02 tho. not sure if its the springs or the shocks but i know the 01's were very bouncy and the 02s were fine.
