Yes, but how does it know that its screwed on? Is there a sensor in the threads? Or does it check that the tank is pressurized? Maybe something else all together ? Somehow it has to know that the cap is on or off. If that thing is screwed on and the sensor just checks to see if there is a cap there, then it will work. if the check engine light looks for a sensor for pressure in the tank, then you better hope that it seals up real good when its closed, otherwise you'll have problems.

i think that when the gas cap is all the way one the gas bay is air tight but if its not all the way on then the sensor reads that there is air flow....just my hypthesis

the light comes on if there's no enough pressure
