Hi, I'm new to the aftermarket stuff, and wondering if you guys could help me out.
I'd like to get 17" Konig Tantrums with Yokohama AVS ES100 Tires on my 02 civic. (good choices??)
What would be a good tire size? (I was thinking maybe 205/40/17?) Is a 205 a lot different
than a 215? Also, I want to lower the car too, I'd like to have the tire fill the wheel well,
but not be tucked up inside. How much should I drop it?

D owns the site. you can thank him for this wonderful site. dont go with 205/40/17. they put more miles on your car than what you drive. i read on here 215/45/17 are your best bet.

Thanks for the advice 1siksivik -- I didn't know that the 205/40/17 could add more miles - that sux.
Do the 45s look cool? I really like the low profile tires, but I definately don't want
more miles than I have driven. The 205/215 thing doesn't affect the miles any though, right?

205-40-17... do you even know what 205/215 mean? do you know what 40/45 mean?
heres the trie calc play around with it, you might learn something..
to answer your question 205/215 and 35/45 does effect the actual miles. why? because those are the tire size. smaller tires then stock would give you more actual miles and bigger tires then stock would give you less actual miles. also keep in mind it also effects the speedometer as well. best thing is to keep the stock tire's overall diameters. for 17s, i think its 215-45-17. of course those have a bigger sidewall compared to 205-40-17 but they they're 17s. its kinda like wanting to put low profiles on 14s. its just doesnt look right. if you really do want low profile tires(cause 215-45-17 is pretty thick to me), then go with a slightly smaller size. yes your going to have more actual miles but not that much. depending on how much smaller the tire is, its only going to be like 500 miles for every 50,000 miles which isnt too badd.

Yeah, I do sorta understand what the 205/215 and 40/45 mean (width and height), but just didn't
know about proper fitment on my ride. Thanks for the link to the tire calc -- it says that a 215/40/17
is 1.75... percent too fast, doesn't sound too bad.

i heard that if you take the car to the dealership they can adjust your (i forgot) so that the miles register normally. i dunno if its true or not. i just heard that. and whats the best size for 18"s. thats what i'm getting.

most people get 215-35-18. i think thats a lil too thin for the ghetto streets of LA so i got 215-40-18. but i dont really like it cause its about .6" bigger then stock meaning it did kill the fender gap .3" but it also raised my car .6". my car looks stock height with a small fender gap(i'm on neuspeed sports). if i could choose again i would probably go with 225-35-18(i didn't get it cause someone said it was too wide but i dont think it is). 215-35 is a lil too thin and 215-40 is a lil too thick. i think 225-35 would be perfect. its also the closest to the stock tire size.

i used to have 205-40-17's...till i needed new tires...i knew that the 40's were adding miles..so i went with 205-45-17's.. i bought yokohama avs es100. they looked kinda big..but the ride was smoother, i just put on my goldline springs and camber kit...and now i have no gap in the back and 1 finger gap in the front.( i have a sedan ) so...i would say that the goldlines are nice w/ 45 series tires..id go for that..but thats just my $.02
