JBL 1200.1 and 12" Kappa Perfects dvc
Ok I have 2 12" Kappa Perfects dvcs. Currently they are each on an different old amps that are starting to clip when I turn up the vol. The amps really arn't big enough for the subs anyway.
I want to get a new amp and the one I was looking at getting was the JBL 1200.1
I see it for 285 @ ikesound.com and I've always had very good service from them
Here's my issue:
My Qlogic box has two chambers sealed off from eachother. How would I get this amp to run both subs? should I cut a small hole in the wall seperating the two chambers? Id really rather not do that is there another way I can do this? Perhaps w/o taking the subs out of the box again?
Tell me what you think?

im assuming they're 4 ohm dvc's each wired parallel to 2 ohms... just paralell the 2 different speakers to each other and presto, 1 ohm... no removal of speakers, no nothing

That's where the problem is... there is a divider between the two chambers w/ the subs.
============
| . . . . . | . . . . . . |
| . sub . | . sub . |
| . one . | . two . |
| . . . . . | . . . . . . |

the box has a sub in each chamber and + & - leads coming out of each chamber

There is no problem with having the subs sealed off from each other, you can wire them outside the box. In fact, the JBL BP1200.1 has connectors for two sets of subs (althought the amp is still mono). Hooking each sub up to one set of connectors is the same as wiring them in parallel (as far as I know), or you could just link the positives on each and negatives on each, but I figure we can get more power through two sets of speaker cable than just one. If you wanted to run it in series that would be possible too, just run the negative from one to the positive of the other, then the other negative and positive to the amp.
In fact, I am doing precisely what you think is not possible for my new box. My old box was like what you were trying to do (all the wiring was inside the box, then one cable going from the terminals to amp) but I figure a) I can change the wiring without taking the subs out b) I can get more power through two cables.
Make sense?
BTW, I also bought my amp from Ikesound for $285. For some reason the serial number barcode was all scratched out...(stolen?)

jbl is 1200 rms... but youre doing this wiring outside the box, ad the reason so many perfects blew with 1200's is that the jbl has no subsonic filter, and subsonic tones + ported box = blow... if you're running sealed then you might be on a better track... ive bought a buncha stuff from ikesound, the warehouse is 15 minutes from my house so i just pick it up myself, ive never had any sort of serial number scratched out...
Wow, that's really convient that the Ikesound warehouse is so close to your house (but shipping is free anyway, isn't it?)
I'm not quite sure what you're saying about the wiring being outside the box and the subsonic filter...how are those related?

well it's a sealed box and I have a coustic XM-5e crossover. do you think my subs have a good chance of blowing? I don't listen to it ultra loud.. and when I do it's not very long.
I think i want to get this unless I am running the risk of blowing my subs or something like that.

If you want to wait a bit, I have that exact setup to the T (from ike believe it or not) arriving in the mail today and being installed tommorow, so ill let you know if my subs go kaboom
And from what I have read, the Infinity's RMS is 350 but there peak for each one is 1400 or something thats quite a bit up there. So we shall see. Hopefully this works out, I am sick of not having any bass in my car

box
OUTSIDE each chamber on the box, theres the place where you plug in the power... get a wire from 1 + (red) and hook it up to the other +(red) then do the same with the negatives... then you plug one of the positives and one of the negatives into the amp... you've just done a parallel wiring job
the connect the 2 EXTERIOR pluses and minuses together for a paralell wiring

Let me know... I'm stoked about this and I want to order it soon. I talked to Andrew from Ikesound on the phone today and he reccommended this amp for my subs w/o me even telling him that's what i wanted. I think I am going to order on Mon or Tues so let me know asap... I'm sure it will rock.

Yeah it should be cool. And Ike was pretty quick about shipping and such. I ordered it last Monday and im getting it today, so its kinda long but also they are in Florida and im in Cali so that does not help ;p. That and I gave them the wrong address to begin with, so that didnt help either. So considering all that it didnt take that long to ship two subs and an amp.

I bought that amp from Ikesound and my perfects blew while I was adjusting the gain! Anyway, I don't know if it is neccesarily the that the speakers can't handle the power in a ported box. Check this reply from an Infinity rep when I sent in my blown speakers:
"We had a brief adhesive problem with the woofer that exposed itself
when the driver was used in a sealed enclosure combined with high
excursions. We have since addressed the problem and the retailer you
purchased the woofers from should be more than willing to exchange your
woofers under warranty. "
I liked the service I got with Ikesound for the JBL so I decided to order some MB quart PSDs from them, and the speakers looked used!!!!!
All the packaging was ripped, and one of the speakers looked like it been sitting in the sun. All of the rubber around the woofer was peeling. The holes in the plastic were so big on both woofers that the magnents were hanging out on both! I was very upset, but the speakers worked, and I didn't want to spend the time and money sending them back.
Anyway, I order a subsonic filter made by Harrison labs for 30 dollars from the Zeb. So I will put my replacement subs in my ported box with the gains turned down low and hope that they don't blow.

I have heard that Infinity's dont like ported boxes period. But that could just be me. Im going to use a sealed box cause I like the tighter sound to bass than loud.

I want to order my amp today but their webpage seems to be down at the moment. Hopefully it will be up soon. I want to order early enough so it might go out today.
Still waiting to hear how your install went Gizmo... let us know.

Believe it or not got it installed and one of the subs doesnt work. Wasnt really happy about that, but it shouldnt be a problem to return it. Even with one sub tho it sounds damn good, I just cant really crank it up right now. I may just bite the bullet and find a local store and buy one from them and install it and return one of the subs (or if they wont give me a refund on that one, ebay it or sell it when I get it back).
We shall see..

Guess I forgot to come back and tell what I thought of the amp.
I like it a lot! It makes my perfects sound really nice. I'm really happy with the purchase, Ike gave me a good deal.
if you're concidering this setup I say go for it!

Yeah, it is a good set up...and the price is right. If you check out the specs on Perfects they actually don't handle sealas many watts sealed as ported. When the customer service person wrote back to me about the glue problem he said that it usually happened on sealed boxes.
Look on the Parameters and Box building page for the perfects and you will see that they can handle about twice as much power ported...as long as you are using an infrasonic filter
