piston and rod question
Well I am new to this board but definately not new to hondas... My question is, does anyone make 9:1 to 9.6:1 drop forged pistons for the D17A2? The same question applies to h-beam rods. Otherwise, will a piston and rod setup from my retired D16Y8 fit without contacting the head at full stroke? The piston bore is the same (75mm) but the stroke on the D16 is 90mm while the D17 is 94.4mm. Any ideas?

nope, the pistons are cylindrical, i just put my caliper on one of the cooked ones and it is a perfect 75mm... I was dreading that response... we are probably going with endyne rollerwave 9.2:1 pistons and custom eagle rods (damn $750 usd for just the rods) and a skunk2 intake mani for starters. You guys wont get to see all the tricks we have planned but just to wet your appetite... estimated 20psi daily driven and 12 sec or less quarter mile times
This project is only in the developmental stages and may be scrapped at anytime depending on the cost of the project (we are already looking at $4000 for just the first stage of engine mods)

try calling trw....they make all sorts of pistons with varying sizes, compression ratios, etc. You know you can always do a tad of boring if they offer one that ohhh soo close lol. plus if there's one that's just a little too high compression you can always go with custom thickness gaskets or mill the head or block if the compression would be too low....just something to think about regardless of whether you've already thought of it
but damn! are you gonna sleeve the cylinders with 20 psi?? I've heard a few horror stories about the cylinder walls giving out under that stress due to thin walls in them....
if the stroke on the d16 is less than the d17 which part is longer?? the rod or the throw on the crank?? if it's the crank throw that's shorter then you'll be cool...if it's the rod then I'd definitely do some measuring...hell either way I'd do some measuring such as width of the rods where they connect to the piston pin and their main caps to the crank to make sure they don't need regrinding on a lathe or anything like that.
but enough rambling since I'm not super clear on the specs for these engines at present.....waiting until I get my jackson supercharger before I decide to tear apart the engine for more boost (and still trying to stay smog legal...lol)
