Mirror Question (Frankenstein M3 + Stock)
Hey guys
Ok, living up north in Canada has its ups and downs...the big down is the crazy winter weather.
As such, I don't want to lose my heating element in the stock mirrors, just to slap in some M3's. I WANT the m3's, but its not worth the sacrifice
BUT...I was wondering: Can I take out the mirror, heating element, and powered movement peice from the stock light, and put it into an M3 mirror? I want the m3 look, but i NEED the heating element. It also has to be powered, but the M3's come powered anyways.
Not sure if this is possible, or if anyone has tried this at all. I did some searches for m3 but came up blank.
Any help would be great!
Cheerio

Okay. The actual mirror of the M3 mirrors is definitely a different shape. Not only is it smaller, it is more rounded/circular. I see now way in which you would be able to safely remove the heating element from the stock mirrors and place them in the M3s...The mirros for the M3 is held in place by plastic. I know the stock one is too, but the plastic for the stock seems to be higher quality. I don't know about the heated ones cuz us americans don't get 'em. :-P The element would most likely burn the backing of the mirror, which would cause it to fall out...It might even melt the housing...not good.
As for Powered M3 Mirrors, they're not expensive! I bought mine like a year ago and they were only $150 USD +Shipping&Handling. And no, they aren't the junky APC mirrors. I got the Powered M3 LED signal mirrors. I've got pic up in my ride.
Hope this was helpful.

Darn. ok, thanks guys!
Maybe I'll buy the powered ones next spring, and then switch back to normal ones for the winter...that way I have the heat when I need it.
Thanks for the input!

There's gotta be a way to transfer the heating element to the M3 mirrors. The only problems that you might run into is the cheaper plastic that might melt, or the mirror might be too small for the heating element to fit. If you took the mirror apart I'm sure you could find some way to transfer it. Or like you said....just do a mirror swap in the winter.
On a side note....does anyone know how I can get my side mirrors blue? Like on the BMWs? I looked for tint, but I couldn't find anything lighter than 35%. I know that the m3 mirrors are dipped in some kind of blue coating...can I buy that shiit? If anyone knows anything about this let me know.
Peace out
