Im trying to figure out why my sub/amp does not seem to work. I was wondering if I could use a voltometer and check the resitance and see if that tells me anything. I tried it on the amp and there is no resistance (like no connection). But im not really sure if thats much help. Anyone have any ideas on whether I can tell if a sub is dead or amp other than using another sub or amp (which I dont really have ready access to)?

i had a similar problem, check at the terminals on the sub, or box, and if you have power and theres no sound, its the sub, thats what happened to me, and luckily my sub was under warranty, so i got a news one, if theres no power at the sub, its the amp. hope that helps.

measure the impedance of your subs...the meter should read around 4 ohms (per voice coil) If its too low, you may have fried your voice coil and, in turn, possibly caused damage to your amp. If you have no other speaker to k=hook up to your amp to test, put the amp on V(ac) across the speaker terminals and play music, if the voltage changes, you have signal at the outputs, if the meter shows nothing, your amp needs fixin.

Found out that the little metal tinsel lead thing on the sub fried off so that was the problems

yeah man, thats what happened to me, somethin like that, i didnt actually see it, but he said i melted somethin to the cone, voice coil?
