stupid newb question about turbos
stupid newb question about turbos
i understand i should already know this, hell i spend enough on the import 'zines what with all their tech advice and tips, but i just wanted to throw this out there...
a turbo is in order to run a waste gate and a blow off valve, correct?
im thinking of purchasing a '95 prelude...but i can't seem to find a turbo available. now granted ive only looked very breifly, but just in case they actually DONT make a turbo for the prelude, i still would enjoy the sounds of the waste gate and blow off....
respond if you can bring yourself down to my newbie level...and hold the flames please...they make me break out in a rash

The wastegate doesn't actually make a sound. It controls the amount of exhaust that bypasses the turbo turbine and therefore regulates how much boost is made. The blow-off valve (or pop-off valve) is what you hear when the turbine's inertia continues forcing air into the intake when the throttle body is closed...The BOV releases this pressure from the intake, which prevents a "back surge" of pressure to the compressor wheel in the turbo which could potentially destroy it. So yeah you need a turbo.
Yes you need a turbo for those parts, and yes they make a turbo kit for '95 preludes. Just search around the net. In fact, im pretty sure HKS sells one, although that would be the most expensive probably. as for just having the sound, ummm, yea i dont know about that. save your money and buy a turbo for its performance, not cause it sounds good. Definately look around in the mag's though cause ive seen some ads for turbo kits for that generation prelude.
