What I noticed about hinged strut bars

A lot of people say they suck, because "how can it help stability if it is hinged?" But, ever notice in all the import mags, the cars that they profile have hinged front strut bars? Why would these cars with thousands of dollars under the hood decide to use cheap $20 strut bars?

Not that I don't think a solid one such as Neuspeed's isn't better, just something I was wondering about.

Anyone installed a hinged one and notice improved performance? Which one did you install?

i don't know...the whole hinged strut bar concept seems counterproductive to me. if one wants to reduce shock tower flex, why would he/she use a bar that allows for more movement via pivoting? solid bars just seem far superior in theory. also, not all hinged bars are cheap...don't forget about the dc sports. i think people just buy it for the name. no way would i pay $160+ for non-solid bar. that's just my $.02

Ok. The other day I found a place where I can get the black neuspeed front strut bar for $90, and now I can't find it. Tornactive has it for 95, but if you have an 02 civic they charge you $10 extra. Booo. I need to find that $90 place. Damn.

why is it 10 bucks extra? it fits 02s too no?

just say you want a 01 civic bar...

as for ebay bars... they're pretty solid I guess, for their price. I mean I've seen cheap generic bars before, and boy do they suck... but I've recently purchase a bar for a 97 accord and it seemed okay in terms of its price range (22 bucks?)

but, bars with pivot points destroys the point of having a bar to stiffen up the chassis...

FIY, oem bars that can be found on the RSX, Type Rs, etc. are a solid piece of bar that was designed specifically for that car.

and I have heard of ebay bars bending.

either case, these types of mods can't really be felt in everyday driving.

if you look at it from an engineering perspective they are all the same. The hinges do not allow the distance between the strut towers to change. The hinges are designed in such a manner as to prevent that distance from changing, the orientation of the towers can change (i.e. the angle) but the distance will not.

Interesting. If it made a world of difference why are you getting a different kind?

I see. That makes sense I guess. So are the one piece ones bad then because they don't allow the orientation of the towers to change?
