Horrible gas mileage
Maybe u guys can help me. I have a real bad problem with the gas mileage in my civic. I can't seem to even make 200 miles to a tank. I should be making at least 300, right? Keep in mind, my civic is rebuilt (it got hit from the front, no engine damage). Could that really be depriving me of 100 miles to a tank? Now i do redline it every once in a while, but most of the time i keep it under like 3000 rpms. The really weird part to all of this is that i drive maybe like 50-100 miles in a day, and the line that tells how much gas is left barely nudges. then i park it in the garage for the night, and when i turn it on the next morning the line drops as if i'm leakin gas or something, but i'm not. any ideas

Do you check your gas milage after every fill-up or do you just go by the fuel gauge? The only way to get a accurate MPG is by filling up the tank and dividing the milage by the total gallons of fuel. You need to do this every time you by gas, a $5 gas up here and there will not work.
You need to run the gas tank as far down as you can; (when the fuel low light comes on) and then fill the tank up. The gas gauge is just a reminder of when you need gas, it is far from accurate. The only way to correctly know what your gas milage is, (and this is the only way) is to fill the car up every time and note the amount of gas and the milage from the last fill up. Do the above math and you'll see a average.
Plus if you "race" the car alot and/or run the A/C all the time and/or you have a automatic, this will have a effect on you MPG.
Just my 2¢

yeah thats way low. i've gotten over 400 miles per tank a couple of times - but i know what you're saying. when i shut mine off it tends to drop a little but mine always goes back up after i drive it awhile again. I usually average about 37-38 mpg and i have an automatic.

I have a 5spd ex and always get at least 330 miles to a tank. She usually only takes 10-11 gallons so I am doing good. That's running the ac and driving with a moderately heavy foot. One time I did get 375 out of a tank in the city. She took 13 gallons and the fuel gauge was saying that I had more than a 1/4 tank. Just a few days ago when I filled up the light was on and the needle was all the way down on the E. She took 10 gallons. In short, malfunctioning fuel gauges are a very common problem in the 7th gen vics. You need to see exactly how much gas you are putting in when you fill up. If you are putting in 10-11 gallons then something isn't right. If you are putting 5-6, then you have a bad fuel gauge.
Also, there have been a hand-full of members that have complained of super low mpg as you are. Never heard any resolution.

I think the fuel gauge has somthing to do with it. I will come back from work and it will say 1/2 before I turn in off and when I start it in the morning it only has a quarter tank left.

A fuel gauge is for REFERENCE ONLY!!! You can't determind gas milage with your gas gauge. Its only there to give you a idea when you need gas. Remember the simple and best way to check your milage,
Fill up everytime you get gas, write down the total milage on your tripometer and number of gallons down to tenths of gallons.
Reset the tripometer and run the tank down as far as you can, then refill it and repeat the steps above.
Divide the total milage by the amount of gallons of gas, this equals your milage. Miles ÷ gallons = MPG
Check it everytime you get gas and allways fill it up, I've had as high as 40 MPG on one tank and as low as 29.5 MPG on another. If you keep your records for a few months you can total up the miles and gallons and get a solid average, mine is 34.3 MPG.

u know it's gettin even worse. today i drove it a bit, and this time extremely gently no revving or anything and the fuel gauge went up! right before my eyes. i swear this thing just bounces around. my car was in an accident, maybe that's what caused this. only thing i can think of at least. i'm waiting to use up this tank, then see how much goes in the next time, and how long it lasts exactly.
oh yeah, and that's exactly what's happening to me johnnylee

Yep, the fuel gauges definately have some issues. I don't pay much attention though. I know how many miles I get to a tank and use the "B" tripometer to keep track of it. I write my mileage on every receipt and enter the octance, price, gallons, and mileage into an excel spread sheet that I set up to keep track of my mpg and to track any effects of the different octanes. I have a pretty constant average of 33.6mpg since the car was new.

I used to stay around 31mpg, now i bounce between 33.7 and 35.7 depending on my driving that week, but overall it's tolerable.. at last fillup, i went 411 miles on 11.5 gallons approx.. but then.. this is just a lil 4 banger..

Since I've purchased my 2K2 Civic Si coupe (1.7 SOHC VTEC with 5-speed manual), I've logged my fuel milage 39 times, and have recorded an average 29.99 MPG. Now, my driving habits differ day to day, and redlining the engine comes at least twice a day. I've recorded low of 25.38 MPG to record high of 37.55 MPG. There was even one instant that I dismissed, which gave me some 21.00 MPG from a city/highway combination. I blamed it on the fuel stations inaccurate pump. I'm really questioning how some of you boys (and girls) are getting anything higher than 35 MPG. Maybe because of the air is thinner here in the Detroit area compared to the sea level air that most of you are feeding your cars? I dunno...

Your numbers don't add up. The 7th generation fuel tank is exactly 50 Liters (+/- 0.5 L, which equates to 13.2086 US gallons. Given that you have got say 425 miles per tank of gas, that would equate to 32.18 MPG, which is no where near your average MPG. Unless your in (or from) England, you're probably using the British gallon (50.0 L = 10.9985 British gal), which could give you then 38.64 MPG.
PiCASSO I dought he runs the tank completly empty, if he's like most of us he fills up with 2 or 3 gallons left in the tank, which if he went 425 miles on 10 gallons, thats 42.5 MPG.
I drive normal and get between 22 and 24 mpg. It's really low, especially since I just did a full tuneup. I used to have an AEM SRI but took it off because of the noise. That lost me another 2-3mpg for some reason. I used to get 26mpg with the intake, now only around 22. Oh well.
