buying spacers online
Anyone know where to buy spacers online? I am going to be ordering some speakers this evening and I need some spacers to install them. I have tried Parts Express, Scosche, and Metra but they didn't have anything. Maybe I will swing by a local shop sometime this week and see if they have some.
edit: I did find a Scosche Kit at Sounddomain.com, but it is a 1" spacer and from what I have heard, that is too big. Don't I want a 1/2" of 3/4" spacer?

I did buy the Scosche SS65 speaker spacer (1" thick), and I now wonder if I will have any problems installing the speakers I have chosen (Pioneer 1667's). If the speakers don't quite fit, is trimming the inside of the doorpanel a difficult task?

in a pinch, you can just cut out a few 1" x 1" blocks out of 3/4" MDF and strategically place them around to mount your speaker.
you may lose a little mid range response, since you'd be physically making the woofer act even more as a free air woofer. the average joe schmoe would never be able to tell the difference. in any case, if you wanted to bring the mid range back up, you can use a foam baffle and that will contain it a little more... not alot by any standards, but for piece of mind.. haha.
UncleB, I had started a thread awhile back about the Pioneer speakers I wanted to put in: "Pioneer 1667 fitment", and Vinz replied that he had used 1" spacers, but not the Scosche; he indicated that he did not have any problems. I have not ordered my speakers from Crutchfield yet, but I am really itchin' to, now that I have the new Pioneer HU installed.

I think I am going to go Saturday to my local audio shop (Sound Advice) and see if they have any spacers. I also need to buy a panel popper. My speakers are being shipped Saturday I hope. I am going take lots of pictures of the sound deadening process (RAAMmat) and of the speaker installation. Look for it in a couple of weeks.

the installation of my infinity kappa's was sort of a mission... i had to both make a spacer out of mdf and cut the hole in my door bigger.... both are easy with a jigsaw, just need a sheet metal blade and a wood blade.... altogether including cutting of spacers, doors, installation, wiring, etc took me only a few hours

I guess I'll just wing it too. I think I might try to do the mdf spacers. I saw some pictures of some online and they don't look that hard to make. I'll have my dad help me. He likes that kind of stuff. I am going to be applying my RAAMmat the same day so it will take me a little longer. I will probably do the front doors only unless it goes quick, then I will do all 4 the same day.
MDF - Medium Density Fiberboard. And both Lowes and Home Depot carry it, in 2'X4', 4'X4' and 8'X4' sheets, all probably 3/4" thick. Its in the wood section, near the trim, and the shelving. Denser than particle board, does not splinter like plywood when working with it, adheres well with a wide variety of adhesives.
I just ordered my speakers from Crutchfield, so I'll be installing them sometime next week. Hopefully, the Scosche spacers will work without too much of a hassle. I'll try and take some pix while I'm doing the install, although others have done a really good job of documenting their steps for us.
