Knock sound from the BACK..not a rattle!

Hi everyone,

I have a new australian model civic (manual). I've experienced this knocking sound from day one. I have read other posts about knocking noises and rattles, however everyone says the knocking noise comes from the drivers side rear wheel. Mine sounds like its coming from the boot area. And the noise is not a rattle...its a KNOCK. It is extremely annoying and only happens at certain times. It will ALWAYS happen when i BRAKE going down a hill...and sometimes when i take off immediately after reversing. For those of you wondering...Yes, I have checked my boot, and it is empty

I spoke to a service guy at Honda and he said that a few people have complained about this...but apparently it is normal. He said something about the brakes and calipers coming together which is making the sound?!?! Somehow i don't think it's NORMAL, so if anyone else out there has this problem and knows what it is or how to fix it...please reply. THANKS!

I thought it had something to do with the brakes seating themselves - I believe it is normal. Have you checked for a blown strut or cracked spring?
