Can cut key unlock trunk release?
I have a 1.7EL, which has remote trunk unlock, and a shaved trunk keyhole (all stock).
I keep the trunk release locked at all times as I keep my roller blades in there. (the lever at the left hand side of the seat to open the trunk.) So, in order for me to unlock the trunk when the car is on, I have to shut off the car, remove the key, then use the remote to unlock. (or, shove key in to hole, unlock, then pull, then relock.)
Can a regularly cut key be used to lock/unlock this? I'm talking about a normal key that does NOT have the security chip in it (the engine immobilizer chip thing.) I went to one key store and they kept on saying it won't work because of the chip, but I'm pretty certain that it should...
However, when you think about it, the valet key does have a security chip, but cannot unlock the trunk lever. I eyeballed the keys, and there are small differences between the keys. Anyone know if this'll work? (a cut key with no chip.)

you are right in that the valet key cannot open the trunk/gascap lock, but thats what its for; it can only start the car and unlock the doors. the trunk release lock does not require a key with the immobilizer chip inside, only the same key pattern as the main key. i think to get such a thing, however, you might just have to get your dealership to make you a copy and just not program the chip.

didn't you get 3 keys? 2 master 1 valet?(or was it 1 master 2 valet) anyways, why not use the 1 valet the start the car and the master to lock/unlock the trunk. valet keys do have a chip cause ya it starts the car. however you do not need a chip to lock/unlock the trunk so yes you could just get a key copied... the trunk lock is a very simple lock, if you lift up the door sill you could lock/unlock it yourself without any key...

Yes, I HAD 2 master and 1 valet, but the gf has lost a set of master + security fob somewhere in her home......
In any case, I never thought of starting the car with the valet, then using the master key to unlock the trunk. But, I don't want that. I want a non-suspicious looking key, a 'normal' looking key, that I can separate from my key chain, and unlock the trunk should I need to. Thanks guys, I'm gonna go to my local hardware store and give the 'normal' key thing a shot... Should cost me no more than $5, but I'm certain I'll get alot of laughs and doubts of it working

it wont start the car but it should open the lock... its a very simple lock. like i said, you could even pop off the door sill and lock/unlock from there without a key

Just to let you all know, it works It's one BIG ugly silver key, with the words "FITS HONDA" on the head of the key. Got it cut at a corner store for $2.99CDN Works to open the doors, and lock/unlock the trunk release. It fits and works in the ignition, though I did NOT turn it all the way to start the engine.... (i.e. I can at least listen to radio using it) Didn't wanna mess anything up

cool, glad it works. just so you know, if you try to use that cut key to start the engine, you wont break anything, but the engine just wont turn over at all, and the next time you put your key in i think that little green key light on the instrument panel will light up to let you know someone tried to start the engine without a programmed key. it should be fine after that though.
