how bad is 205-40-17 on a LX ???
how bad is it to use 205-40-17 tires on a 17" rim with a LX? how bad does it affect the odometer reading ?? will i gain miles like crazy or just like a few miles for like every 100 miles ?? the tire calc says that its off by 3 percent on the speedometer compared to stock...

Well... If it's 3% off whack, then if you go 100 miles on your old tires you would have gone 103 miles with your new tires. Let's say you drive 10,000 miles in one year. You would have put on an extra 300 miles onto the odometer. Just the odometer though. Well, also the number of times the engine's cam shaft revolves. This means higher average rpm's to go the same distance in the same time.

just to follow up on this question, how come all the websites indicate that 17" wheels for our cars need either a 215/40 or a 205/45? would 205/40 wrk for our cars too? what's the biggest difference?

215-40 or 205-45 is just closer to stock thats all and thus making the speed more equal..using a 205-40 tire is ok its just your speedometer is off and you gain more miles on the odometer than usual...for every 100 miles you gain 3 miles....3 % increase from a smaller tire.....
OK...you should get 215/45/R17...places that sell rims talk you into 205/40 cause they stalk a lot of em and they make a killing from it...the proper size is 215/45 and looks the best...so don't cheap out...
40 profile is sweet, he!! 35 is even better, but 45 is a little safer and looks good as well...plus if you're trying to get back to stock measurements as close as possible, 215/45 is the way to go...
