2004 civic help to identify the part

So. Was just changing my front break pads and noticed this thing came loose. What is this for? How critical it is for driving? I tried to put it back in but it just pops off again.

Front sway bar end link. Not terribly vital, but helps decrease oversteer. I want to say @sdaidoji removed his front sway bar entirely when he did AutoX. I could be making that up. lol
