2010 2.2 Diesel starting issues
Hey Everyone,
I’ve tried Googling but seems like a minefield so thought I’d post instead.
my Honda Civic 2.2 diesel 2010 has starting issues. Push the button engine turns over but it doesn’t start straight away. Sometimes it’s a few seconds other times it’s a good 10-20 seconds before it starts, battery tested and all fine. Hot and cold engine temp doesn’t appear to make much difference (nor outside temp for that matter) that I’ve noticed.
Fuel pressure value has been changed as a cheap idea/guess to solve but did not sort. Been to my usual garage, it had an EGR value fault, so they took it off and cleaned throughly (new part was circa £900 iirc) still happening. It’s been doing it for months, and I just pray it starts fine which it eventually does 99.9% of the time. 🙈 it has only not started completely twice. Once when it first really started happening - probably should have just held the start button for longer. But then started on a jump start a day later. Second time started up with some easy start.
It’s on 192K miles, so not worth spending loads of £££ on but wondering if anyone had similar issues? Runs absolutely perfectly once it’s started, well looked after and been serviced every year. Ideally I’d like to keep it running a bit longer while I save up for a better replacement (and how crazy are second hand car prices at the moment fml!)
Anyone got any ideas/things to check? Don’t want to just throw random parts at it if I can help it! No other fault codes found and garage struggled to find anything else wrong with it.

Re: 2010 2.2 Diesel starting issues
engine compression (important for self-igniting diesel engines)
check grounds (although diesel does not have spark plugs), but should help the starter motor get enough power
starter motor getting weak (does not spin fast enough to make diesel self-ignite)
