Excessive fuel consumption?
Excessive fuel consumption?
Hi everyone, this is my first post here, though I’ve been reading for quite a while. I’m kind of concerned for the fuel consumption I’ve been getting from my Honda Civic. It’s a 2010 EX 1.8 automatic, with 60.000 miles. It’s never been really economical, but now it’s averaging like 14MPG in the city. Driving style is not aggressive whatsoever. Just did full maintenance (replaced spark plugs, changed oil and filters, cleaned injectors, checked brakes, etc) but it didn’t improve. Is this normal? What else should I check? Thanks

Re: Excessive fuel consumption?
At this point you should probably just replace it. It's the primary one in front of the cat you want to replace. The oe supplier is either Denso or ntk
Re: Excessive fuel consumption?
Thank you. I read that faulty o2 sensors usually cause other symptoms, such as emissions, gas smell, problems during idling, etc. I’m my case the only one is the poor fuel efficiency. Could it still be caused by the o2 sensor? Any other things I should check?

Re: Excessive fuel consumption?
It's not necessarily faulty, just when they get older they don't respond as fast and can cause increased fuel consumption
Re: Excessive fuel consumption?
Thanks again. Bosch o2 sensors are a lot easier to get where I live, do you have any references of them? I could also buy Denso, but it would take longer to get the part
Re: Excessive fuel consumption?
Sorry to bother you again. I’m a bit confused with the position/name of these sensors. I’ve read sellers called them “front sensor”, “rear sensor”, “upstream”, “downstream”. I gather there is one close to the engine and the other closer to the exhaust. Front and upstream should refer to the same part? Do I need to change both, or just the front one? I also read replacing just one could cause error codes, is this correct? Thanks both for your time

Re: Excessive fuel consumption?
Front/upstream is the one you want, the rear/downstream sensor just checks that the cat is working
Re: Excessive fuel consumption?
Sensor de oxígeno NTK 24048 https://a.co/d/8wVy5y8
Also, I found this Denso on EBay. I’ve contacted the seller and according to the specs of my Civic, this should be the right part

Unfortunately I have to import the accessory, since it’s not available in my country for a fair price, that’s why I really want to make sure before buying. Thanks for your help

Re: Excessive fuel consumption?
Hi again. I bought the original Denso o2 sensor and installed it. Fuel consumption is almost exactly the same as before. What else should I check? Is 14 MPG common for a 1.8 automatic Civic?
