question about wheels and rims

So I am not a car nerd and have no clue about most things, i know my question is stupid but i have to ask. I have a 2009 Honda Civix LX and im looking to get new rims and tires. Question is i believe i have stock size wheels, so here are my questions.

1) If i wanted to purchase 17in wheels, would that require any type of modifications? like frame of the car, shocks, or any of that other wheel related stuff

2) do rims require a specific tire size? like if i get a nice set of rims, would they work on both 16" or 17" wheels? or do i need a specific size to match?

Thanks for the help.

Re: question about wheels and rims

17's will work. You will need 17-inch tires to go on 17-inch rims. No modification will be needed if you stay within spec of your hub bore and wheel well.

Hub bore for those were 64.1mm. You can go larger than that (73mm, for example) but I wouldn't go lower. 205/50R17 is standard on the Si. That'll fit your car no problem. As long as you don't run something like a 275/50R17, you'll be fine.

Hopefully that answers your questions.

Re: question about wheels and rims

You can go to Tirerack's website, input your vehicle, and search for tire and wheel packages. It gives you the option to set the diameter you're looking for and will give you the correct tire size for that wheel. It will even show you a picture of your selection on your car. You don't have to buy from them but it will help pick out the size and specs you want.
