I was teaching someone to drive (09 Civic DX [i think], 5 speed) in a flat parking lot. They stalled the car (second time all day) and when they restarted it the exhaust was LOUD like when your exhaust is no longer connected to your car. But nothing was hit, wrong, banging, scraped, anything. There was also a higher pitched whining. We stopped immediately of course. I popped the hood and found the whining was because a black piece of plastic had snapped and this hose was now rubbing against the serpentine belt which had cut a small hole in the tube. However, the black plastic piece seems to be what caused this. Also, under the black plastic piece oil is now collecting. I got someone to come get us, and I left the car there for now because I don't know if driving it (even a short distance to my house) would do more damage or maim it. I don't have a lot of time with this car, it's a little 'take it to the store' driver vs my daily so I'm not as 'familiar' with it, or Hondas in general. However, my friend who is a die hard Civic fan has told me y'all are amazing and should be able to help. So here I am!
I have posted some pictures that I hope help. If you want/need more pictures please describe and I can go back to the vehicle and take them tomorrow morning (its already dark). Thanks for your help! I am mostly looking to find out the following:
-What is the black plastic piece that broke? I am so scared this is a motor mount.
-Why is there oil there?
-Can I drive it 2 miles home?
-What are my next steps?
The shiny liquid is oil Closer shot of the broken piece This is where the hose is rubbing the belt This is NOT my engine. I have circled the piece that is broken. It seems to have come apart or snapped in half?
