Radio success short lived (water pump?)
Radio success short lived (water pump?)
Well, I was so excited to get the radio on this 05 civic going after driving without a radio since I bought it. I go outside to find a coolant leak. Havent had any issues with coolant leaking till now. Granted the car is 13 years old and I don't know its maintenance history. I bought the car to commute w good gas mileage. Standing on the DS of the engine, the leak seems to be coming from the right side of engine driver seat side. I've attached a photo (down that area). Is that the area of the water pump? I've replaced water pumps on other vehichles but have never owned a Honda. I saw some threads that mention the "timing chain/belt" having to be reset if the water pump is replaced. Is this correct? Are there other possibilities for the leak in this area of the motor?

Water pump is under the black cover. Driven by the timing belt.
You can go under the car and find the source of the leak? The water pump weep hole is visible from under the engine.

Re: Radio success short lived (water pump?)
Can I ask...what is the purpose of the weep hole? Is it possible that what I'm seeing is from the weep hole? and not an actual leak? I just went back out to check under the car and it appears it hasn't leaked for a while as the cement underneath appears to be drying some. My daughter was sitting in the car with engine running and the a/c running while fooling with the radio for about 5-10 minutes. After turning it off and about 20 minutes later is when I noticed what I'm calling a coolant leak. Would the engine being hot/warm cause the leak to leak and the leak stop as the engine cools?

and not an actual leak?
If it's leaking antifreeze from any location, it's bad.
and the a/c running
Re: Radio success short lived (water pump?)
If/when the pumps shaft seal leaks, the weep hole is the open path to the exterior of the pump housing, and it's typically located where liquid can safely exit off to the side so it doesn't contaminate the timing belt.
ANY leak is an actual leak.

You do understand the AC will pour clear water out under the car, right?

Re: Radio success short lived (water pump?)
If the timing belt, cam shaft having to be TDC, etc wasn't involved I know I could replace it. I know there are plenty of good videos outlining the procedure, but time is not on my side here...
It's basically just a timing belt job plus replace the pump while the timing belt is off.
Timing belt was replaced 8/2013 according to the Gates sticker? That makes it 5 years old already, may as well spend the extra 40 or whatever it is for another one.
Re: Radio success short lived (water pump?)
If your lucky it is a failed water pump.
If your unlucky it’s a stripped water-pump bolt that finally failed enough to let coolant out
Pro-tip, leave the sensors plugged in in that area and just unbolt them.
