1996 Civic Coolant Leak
1996 Civic Coolant Leak
Hi, my 96 Civic DX has a major coolant leak coming from somewhere above/around the top of the oil pan. Coolant was constantly dripping from 2 bolts on the oil pan but I could not see up any higher due to my view being blocked. I could not see much anything from above either. Any ideas as to what it is? (I'm a bit of a rookie, though I have minor experience, nothing with radiators and such).
If anyone has any suggestions at all that would be great! I can also provide pictures if it would help the case, I will probably take some tomorrow morning as it is late.

Re: 1996 Civic Coolant Leak
you need to get the jacked car up and look. if its coming from around the timing area, its either a water pipe or the water pump.
Re: 1996 Civic Coolant Leak
Yeah I did get it jacked up and it was around the timing belt area. So typically how much would a new water pump and/or pipe cost me? Sigh just blew all my money recently too hah.
Re: 1996 Civic Coolant Leak
Typically you replace the timing belt and do the water pump at the same time. It is a pretty big job, cheapest will be 450 if you are lucky.

Re: 1996 Civic Coolant Leak
i was about to post a good reply until the site got hacked last night lol. anyway yeah its either the metal connecting pipe going to the water pump, or the water pump itself. if its the pipe, its a pretty easy fix and you just need two o-rings and possibly a new pipe if the old one is corroded.
Re: 1996 Civic Coolant Leak
Water Pump, Timing Belt and Crank/Cam seals were all done at 185km's, and it's at 250 now so should still be fine. So most logical answer is the hose, hopefully I guess. Thanks so much for the help though guys, much appreciated for sure!
