Another rough idle thread.

I have been chasing Gremlins on an 2001 Civic .read three different codes at three different intervals . first was for the voltage or the (ammeter censor basically).Which I found the previous owner disconnected. second was for the temperature sensor .3rd intermittent was a number 3 coil and random misfire. The first thing I did was to change the ammeter censor or current sensor. car ran fine for a little while. same symptoms engine light ,skip .Temperature sensor came back on an OBD code .Change the thermostat which was messed up integrally with the spring and rubber seal. Thought i solved the problem.also changed the temp. Sensor and the fan Thermo switch car ran fine for a month.now I'm back with same symptoms (engine light, poor idle, skip) is it possible all 3 codes or problems arose around the same time ? The only thing left I can think of is the coil packs. They're the only thing I can think of. But why would it work for a while and then not. ? Head gasket seems fine (plugs look great, no oil/coolant mix, heat stable, gauge stable , ) though have not done a compression test. Have been hearing stuff about plugs. Like I said they look great but they are Autolite PP. Car runs fine at speed even at 10 mph. Its just at idle do I get a skip. Thank you for your help.

Re: Another rough idle thread.

Maybe start with tank or two with fuel injector cleaner in it.

Depending on your skill, consider pulling off throttle body and giving it a good cleaning, including taking off the IAC valve and cleaning it out.

Before buying new coils, swap say number 2 and 3 and see if your misfire code follows, if it does then you know you need to replace it, if it stays on 3 you likely have a compression/valve adjustment/ injector issue or even unlikely a perfectly good looking but bad spark plug.

Re: Another rough idle thread.

Hey thanks. Pulled IACV off around the same time as thermostat/cooling . Throttle body & IACV clean. The code I checked again misfire #3. The valves/springs do sound a little sloppy though. Would that throw a misfire code.? Also, there is a slight hairline crack in the exhaust manifold. I'm still not getting the 1 month of running fine then not ? Also I'm directing it towards heat related. It'll run an hour at 80 m.p.h. but it can't idle to save a dog. I go from an Integra to a 4 door civic lx. automatic. Ugh. thanks again for the info.

Re: Another rough idle thread.

If you haven't performed a valve adjustment since ownership or know when the last one was done then it's a good time to do one. Even if it doesn't solve the issue it's still good maintenance. Follow Slumpert's advice.

Yes I will do that (225k not sure if it has ever been done) The notorious Honda cam seal and valve gasket are leaking anyway. I'll have to refresh on the sequence and specs. If you know a link that would be great. Thanks ! .

Perform per service manual. Otherwise search through these: https://www.google.com/search?num=50...92.LkhUy_bU3FM
