Brake booster "is this normal" question..?
Brake booster "is this normal" question..?
Noticed something amiss whilst driving the past few days.. not pulling as well/smoothly..
Not sure if it's caliper piston seizing or something.. I can feel more road through the wheel or something.. I feel (under fingers) like one rear disc has a slight lip too..
Anyway put my foot on brake from cold and it's rock solid until I turn the ignition on... Sorry if this is a stupid question, is that normal ??

A seized caliper will make the rim hot. Spraying a mist of water on the wheels to watch for steam after a long drive could tell you which caliper is seized. Don't touch with hands.
When was the brake fluid changed/flushed last?

Thank you v. much - I will try that!
I noticed some warmth off rear brake after a ride recently (just holding hand nearby) ..
What would I see with the mist?
Fluid change- need to check my paperwork.. the car is due for a major service (after which I'm skint
).. I reckon 3yrs ago, minimum..

If you already have felt heat from the wheels than that caliper is likely seized. The water spray test will just produce steam on a hot wheel that will let you know the caliper might be seized and creating excess heat to the wheel. Don't touch the wheel!
I usually use 3-4 years as a benchmark to flush the brake fluid. This fluid retains moisture over time and will affect braking performance.

Thanks NDNV great advice - not the wheel I thought of but front offside was putting out a LOT of heat.
Took it my friendly mechanic - disc was red hot and wheel required some serious effort to move by hand - had the wheel off for a closer look it's definitely seized. It's getting fixed on Tuesday.
