Frankenstien Swap???
A body of mine says they are trying a frakestien(New CRV block Type R head) swap for 7th gen coupes and I was wondering if any one had any info or is he talking about a different car like the SI.
I am not sure if it is possible, but our engine bays are small, I don't think it would fit into our cars. They do B20's with Type R heads all the time in Hatchbacks and older model civics, maybe ours too.
i think your buddy got something mixed up. I know that they are trying to take a honda s2000 head and put them on the new k series engines, but i have never heard anything about taking a k series head and throwing it on our cars.
You can't put the K series head on our cars (D series)cuz the engines turn opposite directions. If you were taking the 2k1 or newer CRV block and putting it in our car you would need to replace the tranny and A LOT of other things as well.

OK, for the Geniuses out there. . .he is talking about a new CRV block with a TYPE R head conversion being swapped in to a 7th Gen, and he wants to know if any one has any info. I for one, don't know if that's possible. Does anybody with brain cells have an answer? (Note: Travii, you at least were on the right fr@ggin page. :tup
I believe that they cover the frankenstein swap in Honda Tuning magazine. I think they said that it wasnt possible, but Im not sure. Id have to go home and get it. I think they already touched on this subject in the General ramblings category under one of the swap topics.
I am just wounding, How big is the new CRV block? Cause it is going to have to be pretty small, we can't fit B16's in our engine bays so I wouldn't think you could put a CRV block in there.

ok, anyway. the new CR-V engine will FIT in our engine bay dimensionally. It is nowhere near being a drop in swap though. Although the k24 (CR-V) and the K20 (Type R) engines are similar in everything but displacement and type of i-VTEC, it is no longer possible to do a frankenstein conversion (this comes from 3 acura service techs i talked to) like in the old days of the b16 and b18. As far as putting say an old b series (one manufactured after late 2000 if you want to stay legal) i am not sure, people seem to believe their are some clearance issues.
hope this helps.

Who said the B16 won't fit? Just because everyone here doesn't have the kind of money to rebuild the front end of his car and custom build the mounts and harnesses needed, doesn't mean the swap isn't possible. The block would fit, just need custom mounts, wiring, etc.
Frankenstein Engines
Perhaps the biggest bang for the buck is a Frankenstein Engine. A Frank is a bunch of swaps between different blocks and heads within the B engine family to make some non-factory combinations that work exceedingly well.
The most popular Frank swap is adding a VTEC B16A or B18C head from a del Sol, a Civic Si or an Integra GS-R to an LS non-VTEC Integra B18B or even, to make a really big engine, the mini-SUV CRV B20B or B20Z bottom end. The common, easy to find LS Integra B18A and B18B engines have a bore and stroke of 81x89mm, which gives you 1834cc. Powerful but expensive in salvage yards, the VTEC-enhanced B18C has a 81x87.2 bore and stroke, which gives you 1797cc of displacement. The smaller but powerful B16A has a bore and stroke of 81x77.4mm for a displacement of 1595cc. By putting the VTEC head on the LS bottom end, you pick up 35cc over the B18C and a whopping 239cc more torque-producing displacement over the B16A. The added displacement and stroke give the LS Frank engine a nice torque advantage.

well, I don't exactly understand his question.........
but yea, the k24 botoom end and the k20a head will fit fine together.........
Although if you plan on going over 6,000rpm's......better not do it then......HT article said it wont work.....it'll go ka boom......cause of some crap,.....the only worthy swap that has to do w/ the 7th gen is the whole k20a type s.......

damn, you know i was just thinking about this same thing over the past few days.
i mean theoretically (lets pretend i have like 15k to play around with...or whatever) that seems like a really good swap if it works. good torque from the CRV, and VTEC from the type R would make a nice combo. I was also thinking since you have to change the tranny and all that, would it be possible to also just keep the CRV drivetrain and make the civic a 4WD?
mind you i am still learning about all this stuff, so please dont flame if i got something wrong, but it would be nice to understand how these things work. im gonna go back and re-read that honda tuning article again. but if anyone knows, why will the engine go boom past 6k?? can anything be done so that it doesnt??

If I had 15k$ just lying around, personally I would buy 96+ 240sx, and have insane-hybrids.com drop a RB26DETT, (r34 skyline) engine in it. But thats another story...

hahaha...you have a point there, but that would be the easy way!! LOL
plus i still like hondas. it might be a swapped engine, and a frank at that, but its still a honda...and those are damn reliable!! plus i think theres more of an aftermarket for the honda in the US, as opposed to the skyline that doesnt even get sold here. you know??
but is it possible, thats what i want to know...

Maybe they are not trying it on a Ex o Lx ,maybe it's an Si, that would solve the problem of the engines turning opposite ways don't you think.......................

they might be trying it on the Si, but i think the Si is fugly!...plus the Si motor turns the same way that the CRV and RSX motors do (oposite from the 7thGen). once Htown lets everyone know how the K20 swap went on his 7thGen im sure it will put more things into perspective. but if that swap works, what wouldn't make this swap work??
