You may need to fabricate a bracket or something to make sure it can screw down securely. I know the 5x7 and 6x8 are the same speakers typically, you just use different holes in the bracket to put them in the car. But I doubt they will stretch enough to line up with the holes for the 6x9 pattern.

Maybe get something like this http://www.lowes.com/pd_215707-37672...r|1&facetInfo= and some self tapping screws. Cut it where it will run along the long side of the speaker and attach the speaker to it. Then attach the flap back to the holes for the original speaker.
