Buying a 1995 civic
Buying a 1995 civic
hi, I'm buying a junky rusty dented 95 civic 5 speed tommorow for $275, it runs and drives/shifts good, but the body is in pretty bad shape. i looked underneath (at night) and it doesnt seem to be rusty down there, there is minor bumper damage looks like it was a little bumper bender type accident, My plan is to replace the entire body, but i was wondering what i should look for to know if the clips or however they are connected, arnt broken or out of place. this is a 4 door non hatch by the way.
EDIT: also, where would a good place to buy stock body parts from?

Re: Buying a 1995 civic
If you don't care how the body looks for now then definitely buy it. But open the hood first (In the DAY TIME) and look for any serious oil leaks. See what color the oil is....If its any kind of milky color, that means that the head gasket is without a doubt blown. Listen for any kind of real weird noises....let it warm up to normal operating temp, and make sure you have a good idol. Then i would put the car on a flat road....put it in 1st....and slowwwwwly let the clutch out with NO GAS....if it doesn't stall then your clutch is still in halfway decent shape....for the small amount of money your buying this for I really couldn't find a reason not to buy it unless any of the problems mentioned above are occurring. IF its over 200k try and get an idea when the timing belt/water pump were changed if ever. If theres a CEL (Check engine light) then find out what the code is and make sure its nothing too serious....{Its an OBD-1 ECU, so all you have to do is jump your green 2 pin connector under passenger kick panel} I'm not going to explain how to do that, you can search for the code list and exact "how to" Make sure your exhaust isn't completely rusted through and its going to just give way at any moment. A little bit of rust under the car is expected, depicting how the body seems, but make sure your exhaust manifolds aren't cracked and haven't been spot welded. Post some pics before you buy it, and we can probably give you a better idea. But check the mentioned things...and if everything seems good, then I would buy it in a heart beat....just to have around for parts at that price
Oh and find out if it's a D16z6 or the NON-VTEC {D15**} I think
Annnd i didn't even answer your question...haha.....
Umm Craig's list for stock parts...Ebay....Or the market place....people sell and trade things on here....just gotta search and ask
