Do I need to buy a new alternator for THIS piece?
Do I need to buy a new alternator for THIS piece?
While removing my alternator, trying to loosen the wire nut, I heard a snap and a bit of a crackle. After getting it out of the car, I noticed that the stud the wire was attached too came right out of the alternator. It seems that the snap I heard was the black plastic housing that seems to attach the stud to the alternator housing.
My question is, do I now have to buy a new alternator or can this piece be purchased and replaced? It doesn't seem to me that it has any way to be reattached, but I could be wrong.... Someone please tell me I'm wrong...

If you are just doing a timing belt, I never take the wires off. I just lay the alt up on top of the engine out of the way.
That is an insulator (primary purpose), it keeps the positive stud from contacting the housing.
I'm not certain if you can change it as it sits there or not (meaning without taking it completely apart). You can try to loosen the stud and see if it will come out, if it does then you should be able to change the plastic piece. It's available separately in the parts catalog, part #6 looks like it to me: http://www.hondaautomotiveparts.com/auto/jsp/mws/prddisplay.jsp?inputstate=5&catcgry1=CIVIC&catcgry 2=2002&catcgry3=4DR+LX&catcgry4=KA4AT&catcgry5=ALT ERNATOR+%28MITSUBISHI%29
If you can't: Got anybody in your area that rebuilds starters and alternators? I'd try that route, see if they can help.

Doing the head gasket. I don't think I could have found anywhere to lay it out of the way. I'll try to find someone who does that kind of work. Thanks.

It was the bolt (or stud) that goes through that insulator that the wire goes on that broke. I just picked up a cheap one from the parts house for the time being. Honda wanted WAAY more than I could spend at the moment and the one I bought was cheaper than I think I could have gotten the orignal rebuilt for.
