Need carburetor for 83 Hatchback
My 1983 Civic Hatchback, 1.3L engine, won't pass emissions. My mechanic refuses to do anything but replace the carburetor and I have not found any online for sale. Does anybody know where I can get one? I'd hate to say good by to this car, it's been in my family 29 years!

I'd be scared as hell of those, but then I have to stand behind the work I do and have a warranty.

Any GOOD reason yours can't be rebuilt?
Physical damage, missing big pieces?
Been sitting for years without running?
I doubt it.
There is ONE big reason so many mechanics want to replace carbs these days.....Can you guess what that reason is?
Go ahead and think about that for a minute......
Questions about your mechanic:
A) Is he older than dirt?
B) Know what a carburetor is?
C) Know what a carburetor does?
D) Scared of a carburetor?
E) Has the smarts to rebuild the original carburetor?
Carb kit, $40 plus time and smarts.
Complete rebuilt carb from a store, $400 plus time, and still has to be adjusted after it goes on the car......just like the one above. IF it works at all.

Re: Need carburetor for 83 Hatchback
Why won't it pass emissions or I guess why do you think it's the carburetor?
for a quick fix could you just pour some carb cleaner in it?
or if you not up to the task could you take it to your local trade school as a project for someone else.
..just throwing some ideas out there.
Me personally I'd just rebuild it...it's really not that hard.
.or if you happen to live on Vancouver Island you could just swing by this guys house in the middle of the night with a couple wrenches.
